In this proclamation, not only were the true principles of warfare misrepresented in their very nature, but it went so far as to run contrary to the character of the French people and to damage the virtue of their nation. Furthermore, its dignified manner resembles very much the watching of a farcical theatrical performance laden with absurdity. Although it may be factual, there is little of worth in presenting the words of the Crown Prince—a fourteen-year-old boy who is indolent and far from clever.
