【Right Page】 One: Borrow a sixteen-mon bucket (this is an item available anywhere) One: Between early and mid-fourth month, there is a gathering of the rider group at the council hall, with notices sent out by the first-rider group. When attending, only formal hakama are required; shoulder garments are unnecessary. At this time, matters concerning fans, rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves (chimaki), and wearing of purification garments are announced among the first-rider group. Other matters such as boat arrangements are also discussed among all participants. One: Those who ride for the first time after being assigned to Ōrai-da field must, during their retreat period (every year on the night of the second day), provide sacred sake to Nara Shrine and serve sake and food to the rider group. Even if this group consists of three or five people, they coordinate and prepare together. These people remain after the deliberations are concluded and everyone else has dispersed, to hold their consultations and coordination meetings (however, they should enter and exit through the garden area). (However, during the reception of sacred sake, everyone wears court caps and purification robes. After the sacred sake ceremony concludes, if the host gives a greeting, the outer court cap and purification robe may be removed. Therefore, it is good for the host to announce in advance to the group on which day the purification for large and small bean offerings and sacred sake will be performed. The reason is that on that night, even when entering the retreat quarters, everyone waits without removing their court caps and purification robes.) Required items for the above: 【Left Page】 Tohi fish: one piece, washed rice: a small amount, earthenware vessels: two pieces - the above for sacred sake (A drinking spout should be attached to the barrel) (for side dishes) (same as above) Sake: about four shō, sushi: about twenty pieces, dried cod, wakame seaweed - both types arranged together on flat dishes Cups (about three to earthenware vessels should be prepared) - the above for people Equipment for Nara Palace sacred sake: sacred offering earthenware (about three) two pieces, dried fish one piece, washed rice a small amount - the above placed in the deity's serving tray. Sacred sake is obtained by bringing two golden vessels from the shrine grounds, transferred from the barrel, poured into earthenware vessels, and offered by one of the three first-riders. For people's portions: sake is poured into golden vessels, dried cod and wakame are arranged on flat dishes (two sets), sushi is placed in double-layered boxes. First, the sacred sake, divine spirit, and divine offerings are completed once, then these side dishes are served to both sides. Sake is served cold, poured into golden vessels. Additionally, dried cod, wakame, and sushi are placed together on one flat dish, sake is poured into a golden vessel, and since someone is stationed at Kanatsu shrine grounds, this is given to the Nara Palace watchman, etc.
