Sixth group horsemen
If Shiobe becomes ill on the 5th day, Wa-shi shall serve as his proxy Lord of Iyo
Written report submitted on a slip of paper as above
1. Bring bedding on the evening of the first day
1. Perform vigil every night from the first to the fifth day
When serving through a proxy, one should first attend in person until the first day or perhaps the second day, then appoint a proxy from around the third day. The proxy person goes to the vigil site and calls out the first rider outside the building, saying "So-and-so is ill and wishes to serve through a proxy, please kindly announce this," and waits outside. When the first riders and horsemen are assembled and the announcement is made, and when invited inside, the proxy enters the vigil building. (On the second night every year there is the sacred sake ceremony by Lord Nara, so even when entering the vigil site, one should first observe without removing the ceremonial cap and purification robe)
Regarding shrine visits during vigil (On clear days, thick-corded sandals; on rainy days, straw sandals as agreed upon annually, though some people wear wooden clogs on rainy days)
[Left page]
△When visiting from one's private residence each night, begin from Ota (proceed from the main shrine to Fukutoku shrine, then head west via the shrine path)
Enter through the sake hall fence, first perform distant worship of Ujigami shrine from the riverbank, then Kajita shrine, then distant worship of Hiyoshi shrine, then Nara shrine, then through the third torii to Sawada shrine (before this, perform distant worship of Kataoka shrine at Jinguji), then Iwamoto shrine, then distant worship of Matsuo shrine at Sunoko bridge head, then Suwa shrine, then Kataoka shrine, then through the crossing hall to Kawao shrine, then Fujio shrine, then Shingu, then Yamao shrine, then distant worship of Kibune, then Wakamiya, then Sugio shrine, then Haji-no-o shrine, then the main shrine's temporary hall (one bow), then Tanao (however, there is no return to the main shrine, or sometimes there is, mostly at one's discretion)
Then through the tower gate to Hashimoto shrine, then Yamamori shrine (distant worship), second torii, Nara stone bridge, third torii, past the front of Nara shrine and enter the vigil site (during vigil, sleep without removing what is under the purification robe. This means brief rest)
△When making shrine visits from the vigil site each morning, first go to Ujigami shrine from the purification water place, through the first and second torii, perform distant worship of Yamamori shrine, then sequential worship starting from Hashimoto shrine (no return to the main shrine Tanao shrine, or sometimes there is, left to the group's discretion. However, the theory that there is no return is more prevalent)
