[Right folio] ...The foregoing has been a brief summary (of what is known to all people regarding the divine power and miraculous efficacy of the shrine). However, while the national histories and official documents (kanpu) refer to the two Kamo Shrines together as the "Kamo Jōge Daijingū" (Upper and Lower Kamo Grand Shrines — in that order), it is a matter of some concern to us that at some unknown point in time the order was reversed and people began referring to them only as the "Kamo Gejo" (Lower before Upper). We find this state of affairs most regrettable. --- **Concerning the Subsidiary Shrines (Sessha)** Kataoka-sha (interlinear note: also known as Katayama-sha) · Kifune-sha · Shingū-sha · Ōta-sha · Wakamiya-sha · Nara-sha · Sawada-sha · Ujigami-sha Of the above, Katayama-sha, Kifune-sha, and Ōta-sha are all shrines listed in the Engishiki. In addition to these, there are numerous smaller shrines. --- **Concerning Ritual Ceremonies (Saiten)** [Left folio] 1. The Aoi Festival (Aoi Omatsuri), held on the middle Day of the Rooster in the Fourth Month This festival began in the reign of Emperor Kinmei. However, as it has been referred to simply as "the Festival" (tada no matsuri) without further qualification, we consider this to reflect the especially grand scale and significance of this particular festival. It is, of course, the festival of this Upper Grand Shrine, and the Lower Shrine also participates therein. 2. The Rinji-sai (Extraordinary Festival), held on the lower Day of the Rooster in the Eleventh Month This festival was established from the first year of the Kanpei era under Emperor Uda. It is, of course, the festival of this Upper Grand Shrine, and the Lower Shrine also participates therein. 3. The Otana-e (Sacred Shelf Ceremony), held on the Fourteenth Day of the First Month This ceremony began during the Kannin era under the Retired Emperor Go-Ichijō. 4. The Kurabeuma-e (Horse Racing Ceremony), held on the Fifth Day of the Fifth Month
