**Osprey (Misago) — continued**
They are found everywhere along the coast. They circle in the air, and upon spotting a fish floating at the water's surface, they dive straight down to catch it. As they cannot enter the water, they soar all day without rest. The large accumulations of fish they pile up in the shadows of rocks deep in the mountains are called "Misago no Sushi" (Osprey's Sushi). In the province of Iyo, this is also called "Misago no Shōben Sushi" (Osprey's Pee Sushi).
**Osprey (鶚) — A Variant**
The eyes are yellowish-white with a distinct ring; the beak is black; the feet are yellow; the claws are black. There is black plumage around the eyes and on the cheeks. The crown is gray, and both the neck and mid-abdomen have grayish-brown spots. The feathers above the eyes, on the chest, and on the tarsal area are white with brown markings. The nape, throat, and flanks are yellowish with brown markings. The coloring resembles the juvenile plumage of a hawk, with yellowish-brown and pale black markings. The wings are black, and the tail resembles that of a falcon. As two birds were seen flying together, they are presumed to be a mated pair. It is said that they store seawater in rocky caves and ferment fish flesh to make *hishio* (a type of fermented paste or sauce), and that poor people seek it out to eat.
**Kawa-misago (River Osprey)**
There is a bird also called "Yodo." In the province of Awa, it is called "Mizu Dandō." It resembles the Osprey but is smaller.
