大に悦び之を以て鑄冶（ ｜いものし）に賣らば今日の食量を
購ふに餘りあらん善き物得たりと獨語（ ｜ひとりごと）しなが
ら猶打返し打返し心を注（と）めて上下周圍を檢査（ぎんみ）
し中には何物か入りて有るやらんと震動（ふりうごか）して
試むるに響なし熟（つら〳〵）思ふに此封印の文と云ひ此
瓶の状（なり）と云ひ中に入れたる者は貴重の珍宝に
疑ひなし。いで先づ試みに取出して見んと腰に
帯たる小刀を把出し鉛封を開き瓶を倒さまに
為したる所中より出る物なければ怪みながら

買うのに十分であろう、良い物を得たと独り言を言いながら、
なおも何度も何度も心を込めて上下周囲を検査し、
中には何か入っているのだろうかと振り動かして
試してみるが音がしない。つらつら思うに、この封印の文字といい、この
瓶の様子といい、中に入れられた物は貴重な珍宝に
違いない。さあ、まず試しに取り出して見ようと腰に
帯びている小刀を取り出し、鉛の封印を開き、瓶を逆さまに
したところ、中から出る物がないので怪しみながら、
瓶を自分の前に据え置き、しばらく手をこまねいて思案していると

When nothing came out from within, he wondered at this, placed the bottle before himself, and for a while folded his arms in contemplation.
