現代語訳

前のページの続きから）確かに顛素（張旭・懐素の書体）と異ならない。蓋しその国の僧は皆日本に遊学して帰り、その本国の子弟に書を教えている。汪録（汪楫の『使琉球雑録』）に言うところの「皆草書で隷字がない」というのは、今見ると果たしてその通りで、それが日本の国書であることに疑いはない。

琉球語

英語訳

(continued from previous page) indeed is no different from Dian-Su (the calligraphic styles of Zhang Xu and Huai Su). This is because the monks of that country all study abroad in Japan and return to teach the children of their home country calligraphy. What Wang's Record (Wang Ji's "Miscellaneous Records of the Mission to Ryukyu") states—"all cursive script with no clerical script"—proves to be exactly true when observed today, leaving no doubt that it is Japanese national script.

Ryukyu Language
　　Note by [the compiler]: According to records by the envoy Chen Kan during the Jiajing period of the former Ming, he stated "they claim to have barbarian language and barbarian characters." Though there were supposed to be transmissions in the appendix at the end of the volume, the manuscript copy was incomplete and has not been seen. The mission record of Envoy Xia Ziyang during the Wanli period includes carved Ryukyu language.
Our dynasty's envoy Zhang Xueli also briefly recorded it in his miscellaneous notes. Now, based on those sources with slight corrections added, the phonetic correspondences vary and inevitably contain errors in the distinctions between light and heavy, clear and muddy tones.
