[Continued from previous folio] ...when Tomoaki (与顕) petitioned for Junior Fourth Rank, Upper Grade (jushii no jō) at the age of fifty-two, the precedents cited at that time were individuals aged fifty-nine and fifty-five, and imperial sanction was duly received. When the same person petitioned for Senior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade (shōshi no ge) at the age of fifty-seven, the precedents cited on that occasion were individuals aged sixty-nine and sixty-six. "It is possible that the precedents submitted this time on behalf of Suenaga may be regarded as particularly inappropriate. As I wish to bring these matters to your attention as well, should any ruling be forthcoming, I humbly ask that you would kindly convey this on our behalf." With this, he showed the written extract to Moku (of Mizutani), who said he would like to receive it if there were no objection. Hodo replied that it was merely a personal memorandum he had made in case it might be enquired about, and asked whether it would be appropriate to hand it over; but Moku insisted, saying that precisely because it was a personal memorandum it was all the more desirable, and so the extract was left with him upon departure. Item: On the return journey, they took a look at the ruins of the previous night's fire. From there, they called upon Her Highness of Hōkyōji Temple to enquire after her wellbeing following the night's fire, and returned to their lodgings around midday (half of noon). Item: After the general representatives returned to their lodgings, a small informal meeting (ko-yoriai) was held. Those in attendance were: the Chief Priest (kannagi), Masahisa, Gyōkyū, Hokashikanobu, Hokaku, and Hodo. The scribe was the Deputy Recorder Akiaki (代史顕), and Gakuaki (学顕) was present at the meeting hall. The month-duty official Yoaki (世顕) was absent due to illness (shoro). After the foregoing matters were explained, it was confirmed beyond doubt that the interval (nakаoki) recorded for Nagatoki was incorrect, and accordingly the small folded paper (ko-origami), its outer wrapper, and accompanying documents were corrected to read twenty-one years for the interval. The scribe was the Deputy Recorder Akiaki. The personal memorandum extract that had been handed to Moku and subsequently returned was also explained, and the Chief Priest reviewed it as well. The record thereof is as follows: Precedents submitted on behalf of Tomoaki (age 52) Kyōhō 11 (1726), 12th month, 24th day: Junior Fourth Rank, Upper Grade — interval of 4 years — Nara Shrine Shōgi (称宜) — from Junior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade — Kamo / Suenai (季内), age 59 Kyōhō 14 (1729), 1st month, 22nd day: Junior Fourth Rank, Upper Grade — interval of 10 years — Ujigami Shrine Shōgi — from Junior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade — Kamo / Shōaki (菖顕), age 55 Precedents submitted on behalf of Tomoaki (age 57) Kyōhō 13 (1728), 1st month, 22nd day: Senior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade — interval of 4 years — Ujigami Shrine Shōgi — from Junior Fourth Rank, Upper Grade — Kamo / Suehide (季英), age 65 Kyōhō 18 (1733), 4th month, 7th day: Senior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade — interval of 6 years — Ōta Shrine Hafuri (祝) — from Junior Fourth Rank, Upper Grade — Kamo / Suenai (季内), age 66 [Lower section] Precedents of shrine officials of affiliated shrines (sessha) who received imperial sanction for Junior Fourth Rank, Upper Grade at ages forty-one or forty-two: Junior Fourth Rank, Upper Grade — interval of 6 years — Kataoka Shrine Hafuri — / Narihisa (就久), age 41 Junior Fourth Rank, Upper Grade — interval of 4 years — same shrine Negi — / Norihisa (職久), age 42 Junior Fourth Rank, Upper Grade — interval of 5 years — Kibune Shrine Negi — / Shigemoto (重元), age 45 Junior Fourth Rank, Upper Grade — interval of 4 years — Kataoka Shrine Hafuri — / Ujiyori (氏凭), age 43
