現代語訳
の質に似た粘りのある物質で、水に溶解する。焼酒（アルコール）には溶解しない。また卵の白身のような性質の物質が二十四、五分あり、これも水に溶解するものである。したがって水で煮れば、この二種類は除去できる。このほかに油分・脂分が一分から一分半ほどあり、黄色い糸にはさらに別に黄色い脂分の物質を少し帯びている。これらは水に溶解せず、アルコールまたは石鹸溶液でなければ洗い取ることができない。クロールという薬品を用いれば最も速やかに清潔になる。亜硫酸を用いれば表面は清潔になるが、十分に汚物を除去することはできない。したがって糸を晒すには、クロールを用いるか、石鹸またはカリ（炭酸カリウム）を用いるのである。

This is a sticky substance similar in nature to glue, which dissolves in water but not in alcohol. There is also about twenty-four to twenty-five parts of a substance with properties like egg white, which also dissolves in water. Therefore, by boiling in water, these two types can be removed. In addition, there is about one to one and a half parts of oily and fatty matter, and yellow silk carries a small amount of additional yellow fatty substance. These do not dissolve in water and can only be washed away with alcohol or soap solution. Using a chemical called chlorine will clean it most rapidly. Using sulfurous acid will clean the surface but cannot sufficiently remove the impurities. Therefore, to bleach silk, one uses either chlorine, soap, or potash.
