これか為（ため）に渋（しぶ）りめくらずして肌肉（みはた）に泛（うかひ）溢（あふ）れて出瘡（てもの）赤色（あかみつよく）なりて掻（か）
痒（ゆみ）を発（はつ）し或（あるひ）は癍（はん）といふものを発（はつ）し又（また）は疔（てう）といふものを生（しやう）す或（あるひ）は血行（ちめく）
らずして血毒（けつどく）といふ症（やまひ）になりて出瘡（てもの）焦（こかれ）黒（くろ）くなり膿（うみ）もたずして終（つひ）に
危（あや）ふきに至（いた）るなりされど婦人（をんな）の痘中（ほうさう）に経水（つきやく）にかゝるものには随分（すひふん）用（もち）

これ（血の実）のために（血が）渋滞して循環せず、肌肉に浮き溢れて発疹が赤色を強くし、掻痒を発し、あるいは癍（はん）というものを発し、また疔（ちょう）というものを生じる。あるいは血行が阻害されて血毒という症状になり、発疹が焦げて黒くなり、膿も持たずして終には危険な状態に至るのである。しかし婦人の痘瘡中に月経にかかる者には随分用いてよい。また血虚という症状で発疹の赤みが薄い場合には少し用いるのもよい。ただし気血ともに虚した者には朝鮮大人参でなければ用いても効果がない。

Due to this (blood excess), the blood becomes stagnant and does not circulate, overflowing onto the skin and muscle tissue, causing eruptions to become intensely red and develop itching. Sometimes it causes the development of what are called han (spots), or sometimes it produces what are called cho (boils). Or the blood circulation becomes blocked, resulting in a condition called blood poisoning, where the eruptions become scorched and black, fail to suppurate, and eventually lead to a dangerous condition. However, for women who experience menstruation during smallpox, it may be used quite well. Also, for the condition called blood deficiency where the eruptions have pale redness, it may be used in small amounts. However, for those whose qi and blood are both deficient, it will have no effect unless Korean ginseng is used.
