**Right folio:**
Gaolu (*kōro*) — Chinese tea (*tōcha*) — Bitter tea (*nigacha*)
**Left folio:**
*Ku□* (kutei) [cited in *Tōnga*]
*Tō* (proper character; common usage)
*To* (same as above)
This plant grows in the mountains. Its form is the same as that of tea (*mei/cha*), with a stout and large trunk, coarse branches, and leaves measuring two to three *sun* in length and about two *sun* in width, which are thick. Its flowers also resemble those of tea but are larger and white. The leaves are harvested, processed, and brewed as tea. Its flavor and aroma are slightly inferior [to ordinary tea].
