現代語訳
斎藤半左衛門に銀馬代を献上し、御目見を仰せ付けられて済んだところ、再び召されて御出座になった。御前近くに進むよう再三上意があったため、御側近くに進んだところ、「兵部大輔（先代）の願いにより隠居を仰せ付け、そなたに家督を仰せ付ける。そなたはまだ若年であるから、諸事や仕置き等は兵部の指図を受けるように」と直々に上意があり、ありがたく御請けして申し上げた。御退出の際、御礼のため老中、若年寄中および酒井河内守忠挙殿へ御廻勤した。七人の御家来も御礼のため老中、若年寄中へ廻勤した。
一、八月二十七日 右同様の理由により、本多孫太郎長員をはじめとする御家老へ御書を認められた。
一、九月朔日 東叡山高巌院様御霊前へ使者花木外記吉時を以て御香奠銀二十枚を指し上げた。
ただし、三月十二日から十七日まで御法事があり、御結願の日に指し上げる予定だったが、家督御礼以前のため延引し、今日指し上げた。
一、同月七日 重陽の御祝儀として、御先代の通り使者を以て御小袖五着を献上した。
一、同月十一日 御家督御祝儀として、御大老、老中をはじめとして御招請し、御饗応、御囃子があった。
一、同月十八日 御精進揚げにつき、御先代の通り使者を以て御肴（鱸二尾）を献上した。右の御披露が済んだ後、御奉書を老中稲葉美濃守正則殿から

Silver horse money was presented to Saitō Hanzaemon, and after the formal audience was completed, he was summoned again and [the Shogun] came out to sit. When there were repeated instructions from above to approach closer to his presence, and [Tsunamasa] moved closer to his side, [the Shogun] said directly: "Due to the request of Hyōbu-no-taifu (the previous lord), he is granted retirement, and you are granted succession to the headship. Since you are still young, you should receive guidance from Hyōbu regarding all administrative matters and governance." [Tsunamasa] gratefully accepted this direct instruction from above. Upon departure, he made courtesy visits to the rōjū, wakadoshiyori, and Sakai Kawachi-no-kami Tadataka to express gratitude. Seven retainers also made courtesy visits to the rōjū and wakadoshiyori to express gratitude.
1. On the 27th day of the 8th month: For the same reason, letters were written to the chief retainers, beginning with Honda Magotatō Nagazane.
1. On the 1st day of the 9th month: An envoy, Hanaki Geki Yoshitoki, was sent to the spirit altar of Kōgan'in-sama at Tōeizan with an incense offering of 20 pieces of silver.
Note: Memorial services were to be held from the 12th to 17th of the 3rd month, and the offering was to be made on the final day, but it was postponed because it was before the succession ceremony, so it was offered today.
1. On the 7th day of the same month: For the Chrysanthemum Festival celebration, five kosode robes were offered through an envoy, following the precedent of the previous lord.
1. On the 11th day of the same month: To celebrate the succession, the tairō and rōjū were invited for a banquet with musical entertainment.
1. On the 18th day of the same month: For the end of the abstinence period, fish (two sea bass) were offered through an envoy, following the precedent of the previous lord. After this was formally acknowledged, an official letter was [received] from rōjū Inaba Mino-no-kami Masanori.
