Heiemon's son Heizo was pardoned from self-restraint. 1. Kanʹen 1, Year of the Dragon, 11th month, 10th day: Inaba Tamiya reported through a messenger that his retainer had committed a breach of etiquette within the Iron Gate, not being aware of the lord's departure, and reported that he had strictly reprimanded the offender for this grave misconduct. When this matter was brought to the lord's attention, it was decreed that since this involved a person of low rank, the matter should be pardoned as reported. Accordingly, Tamiya's retainer Tsuchida Jisuke was summoned to the residence of monthly duty officer Tanabe Godayu, where he was informed of this decision and told he was pardoned. 1. Same year, 11th month, 18th day: During an inspection tour of the castle town, Hasebe Koemon's wife appeared in a palanquin and came into the lord's view within the Iron Gate. This was reported by the escort magistrate and ashigaru magistrate. When this matter was brought to the lord's attention, both Koemon and Kumagai Kohei requested to impose self-restraint. When this was reported to the middle-ranking elders, it was decreed that Koemon should remain in confinement, and Kohei should remain confined until granted an audience. This was conveyed to them. Since this matter was handled privately, it was not formally reported to the senior retainers, but was mentioned informally later. On the 20th of the same month, both men were pardoned. 1. Same 2nd year, Year of the Snake, 1st month, 10th day, 5 o'clock: The lord made a pilgrimage to the Buddhist hall via the back route, then proceeded through Shimizu Gate to visit Kokenji Temple. During this journey, there was also an audience along the way, so the lord departed through the main entrance and traveled via the back route. However, the chamberlains had not previously informed the ashigaru magistrates of this plan. Consequently, the middle gate guard Arakawa Ichibei was unaware of the lord's passage, failed to close the middle gate, and remained prostrated there. When he later learned of the lord's passage, the ashigaru magistrate reported this as extremely poor conduct, which was then reported to us. Since the chamberlains had not given prior notice, the ashigaru magistrates had not instructed regarding the gate closure. When this matter was reported to Nakane Yukie, he acknowledged that he had completely failed to notice the need to inform the ashigaru magistrates, calling it an oversight. It was arranged for Yukie to handle the matter at his discretion. When we also brought this to the lord's attention, it was decreed that this appeared to be an oversight by the chamberlains, and the guard should be treated accordingly.
