Similarly, the various craftsmen residing along the back streets are gradually decreasing in number, so there are many houses being rented out only through town service duties (machi-nami go-yaku-gi), but these too have many vacant houses appearing, making it difficult to fulfill the town service duties, and we believe everyone is in extreme hardship. While it is presumptuous to speak of such matters, though individual prosperity and decline cannot be helped, since the entire town quarter is impoverished and those who can make a living have become extremely few, even those who have already ruined their fortunes and possess small amounts of house lots, residential land, rice fields, etc., when they wish to sell these properties to pay off their debts, there are many who cannot complete transactions regardless of price levels - the situation is such that no financing is available at all, and truly the entire town quarter has declined, which we find incredibly lamentable. However, in recent years, merchants from other regions have been entering our domain in particularly large numbers, conducting auction sales of various goods during the Shino-Toyo Festival and other occasions, so the market people who come to the castle town are one after another
