猥成儀候はゝ急度相改筈候勿論風吹はしやき候節は面々家来屋敷之辺夜中為
相廻可被申旨に候并江戸留守之面々は人少にも可有之儀に候得は其一類或は隣家之面々ゟ

六月十日 各中 目付中
追って、江戸町裏の大きな排水溝について、今春に浚渫を命じたが、この間調査したところ、屋敷の裏手からも堰石などがあり、町裏からも排水箇所の修繕が見受けられた。一両日中に目付の者を派遣し、排水溝の浚渫、および排水箇所の堰石などを取り払い、定められた川幅に整備する予定である。そのように心得ておくこと。触れを出した際には、以前と同様に家来を一人ずつ派遣すること。町方には人足を出させるので、その点も心得ておくこと。以上。
※この追書は江戸町北側の方々のみへ通達するものである。

○御堀での殺生については、かねてより禁止されている場所であり、制札なども設置されているので、皆は承知の上でそのようなことはしないはずである。しかし、末端の不案内な者どもがそのようなことをしている様子と思われるので、禁止区域であることを家来等にまで厳しく申し付けるのが適当と考える旨。
六月二十八日
右は、この間御曲輪の御堀が夕暮れ時に及んで網などを打っているという様子が聞こえてきたので、同役中と相談の上、今日御本丸において諸月番の方々へ、月番の渥美新右衛門が遠慮なく話したところ、皆々承知した由、挨拶を申し聞かせた。
○例年通り、盆中に御触が出されているが、さらに城下の広場への人の集まりについて、とりわけ勝見へ人を出さないようにすること。この件について、支配のある方々はさらに申し聞かせること。

右は御本丸において、高知をはじめ諸月番へ申し達した。
○御門の鳩が少なくなってきているので、各自の屋敷内において鳩を取らないよう、下々に至るまで厳しく申し付けること。たとえ屋敷内にいる飼い鳩であっても取らないよう申し付けること。以上。

享保十八丑年（1733年）
○火の元の件につき御書付
ただし、御家老中より仰せ渡された部に記載されているため、ここでは省略する。
○今度、御書付をもって仰せ出された通り、火の元の件について末端の者にまで厳しく申し付けること。また、五つ時（午後八時頃）より提灯を立てて往来することが定めであるので、いよいよその定めを守り、末端に至るまで、その刻限からは必ず提灯を立てて行動するよう申し付けること。万一、乱れた行動があれば厳しく改める予定である。もちろん、風が強く吹く際には、各自の家来を屋敷の周辺に夜中も巡回させること。江戸に留守居の方々は人手が少ないと思われるので、その一族あるいは隣家の方々より気を付けて油断のないよう相談しておくこと。昼夜ともに御役掛りの方々が巡回されるので、そのように心得ておくこと。さらに、不時に御目付・御徒目付が巡回するよう仰せ付けられているので、支配のある方々は末端・下々に至るまで……

**10th day of the 6th month** — To All Parties / From the Inspectors (Metsuke)
Additionally, regarding the main drainage ditch behind Edo-machi: although dredging was ordered this spring, upon investigation it was found that there are weir stones (sekiseki) behind the estate grounds, and repairs to drainage points were also observed from the rear of the town. Within the next day or two, inspectors will be dispatched to dredge the drainage ditch, remove the weir stones and drainage repair structures, and establish the waterway at the prescribed width. Please be informed accordingly. When the notice is issued, please send one servant per household as before. The townspeople will be directed to provide laborers, so please be aware of this as well. The above postscript is directed only to those on the north side of Edo-machi.

○ Regarding hunting and fishing in the castle moats: since these locations have long been prohibited and notice boards have been posted, everyone should already be aware and refrain from such activities. However, it appears that unfamiliar persons at the lower levels may be engaging in such behavior. It is therefore considered appropriate that the prohibition be strictly communicated to all, including servants.
**28th day of the 6th month**
The above notice was issued because it was heard that people had been casting nets in the castle moat (go-kuruwa no o-hori) around dusk. After consulting with colleagues, today at the Main Keep (O-maru), the duty officer Atsumi Shinemon spoke frankly to those on monthly duty, and all indicated they understood.
○ As in previous years, notices have been issued during the Obon season, but furthermore, regarding the gathering of people at open spaces in the castle town — particularly at Katsumi — no one is to send people there. Those who have subordinates under their jurisdiction should convey this matter once more.

The above was communicated at the Main Keep to the senior retainers (kōchi) and all those on monthly duty.
○ As the pigeons at the castle gate have become scarce, everyone is strictly ordered, down to the lowest servants, not to catch pigeons within their estate grounds. Even domesticated pigeons kept within one's estate are not to be taken. Please be informed accordingly. The above.

**Kyōhō 18, Year of the Ox (1733)**
○ Written notice regarding fire prevention:
*(This is recorded in the section of directives issued by the Senior Elders (go-karō-chū) and is therefore omitted here.)*
○ As has been announced by written notice, the matter of fire prevention is to be strictly communicated down to the lowest persons. Furthermore, as it is the established rule that people must carry lit lanterns when traveling from the fifth hour (approximately 8 p.m.) onward, this rule is to be observed all the more strictly, and all persons from the lowest level upward are to be instructed to carry lanterns from that hour without fail. Should any violations occur, they will be strictly corrected. Naturally, when strong winds blow, each person's servants are to be made to patrol around the estate buildings throughout the night. Since those remaining in Edo on caretaker duty will likely be short-handed, they should consult with their relatives or neighboring households to remain vigilant. Officers assigned to relevant duties will be making rounds both day and night, so please be prepared accordingly. Furthermore, as the inspectors (o-metsuke) and walking inspectors (o-kachi-metsuke) have been ordered to conduct unannounced patrols, those with subordinates under their jurisdiction, down to the lowest and humblest persons…
