【三巻十七丁裏】
△ほりの長四百間に《割書：ひろさ》五間三尺に《割書：ふかさ》弐間弐尺
あり此／坪（つほ）何ほとあるそと云（いふ）時
五千四拾壱／坪（つほ）四分弐りと云
先（まつ）弐間弐尺と右に置此弐／間（けん）に六五をかくれは一丈五尺
と成又五間三尺にも五間ばかりに六五をかくれは三丈
五尺五寸と成とこれを右之一丈五尺にかくれは五三二五と
成これに長四百間をかくれは二一三と成これを四二二
五を以てわれは五千四十一坪四分弐りとしる也
又右之二一三を六五にて二たひわりても五千
四十一／坪（つほ）四分弐りと成也

現代語訳
【三巻十七丁裏】
△堀の長さ四百間、広さ五間三尺、深さ二間二尺ある。この坪数はどの程度あるかという時に
五千四十一坪四分二厘と答える
まず二間二尺を右に置く。この二間だけに六五を掛ければ一丈五尺となる。また五間三尺にも、五間だけに六五を掛ければ三丈五尺五寸となる。これを右の一丈五尺に掛ければ五三二五となる。これに長さ四百間を掛ければ二一三となる。これを四二二五で割れば五千四十一坪四分二厘とわかる。
また、右の二一三を六五で二度割っても五千四十一坪四分二厘となる。

まず四百間五尺のうち四百間だけに六五を掛ければ二百六十丈五尺となる。これに広さを丈に直して掛ければ九二四七五となる。これにさらに深さを丈に直して掛ければ一三八七一六二五となる。これを右に別に置く。左に坪法（つぼほう）二七四六二五と置いて、これで右を割れば五千五十一坪一分一厘となる。

△When the length of a moat is 400 ken, width 5 ken 3 shaku, and depth 2 ken 2 shaku, and one asks how many tsubo this amounts to:
Answer: There are 5,041 tsubo, 4 bu, 2 rin.
First, place 2 ken 2 shaku to the right. Multiply just the 2 ken portion by 0.65 to get 1 jō 5 shaku. Likewise for the 5 ken 3 shaku, multiply just the 5 ken portion by 0.65 to get 3 jō 5 shaku 5 sun. Multiply this by the 1 jō 5 shaku obtained above to get 5.325. Multiply this by the length of 400 ken to get 213. Divide this by 4.225 to find 5,041 tsubo, 4 bu, 2 rin.
Alternatively, dividing the above 213 by 0.65 twice also gives 5,041 tsubo, 4 bu, 2 rin.

△When the length of a moat is 400 ken 5 shaku, the width 5 ken 3 shaku, and the depth 2 ken 2 shaku, and one asks how many tsubo this amounts to:
Answer: There are 5,051 tsubo, 1 bu, 1 rin.
First, multiplying just the 400 ken portion of "400 ken 5 shaku" by 0.65 gives 260 jō 5 shaku. Multiplying this by the width converted into jō gives 9.2475. Multiplying this further by the depth converted into jō gives 13.871625. Set this aside to the right. Place the tsubo-hō (tsubo divisor) of 2.746825 to the left, and divide the right-hand value by it to obtain 5,051 tsubo, 1 bu, 1 rin.
