先（まつ）九尺八寸八分を左右（さう）にをきかくれは

【三巻十五丁裏】
まず、九尺八寸八分を左右（両辺）に置いて掛ければ、九七・六一四となる。これに三角の法（係数）〇・四三三を掛ければ四二・二六七…（端数あり）となる。これに高さ一間半を掛ければ六三・四…（端数あり）となる。これを平坪の法四二・二五で割れば、一坪半となる。
△平坪の法である四二・二五で割る際に用いる、あらかじめ作っておく（割り声の）表：
一 → 二一五五（÷42.25）
二 → 四三一

四二二五進の一十（すなわち、42.25ずつ増えるごとに一十となる）
【三巻十六丁表】
△このつつみ（堤・土手）の坪数はどれほどかというときは、
五百三十二坪あると答える。
まず、上の幅は三間と二間を合わせて五間になる。これに下の幅は八間と六間を加えて、四ヶ所合わせると十九間ある。これを四つで割れば四間七五（すなわち四・七五間）となる。これに高さ二間を掛ければ九坪半となる。これに長さ五十六間を掛ければ、五百三十二坪となる。

First, place 9 shaku 8 sun 8 bu on both sides (left and right) and multiply them together to get 97.614. Multiply this by the triangular coefficient (sankaku no hō) of 0.433 to obtain 42.267… (with a remainder). Multiply this by the height of 1.5 ken to get 63.4… (with a remainder). Divide this by the flat-tsubo conversion factor (hiratsubo no hō) of 42.25 to obtain 1.5 tsubo.

△ When asked how many tsubo this embankment (tsutsumi) contains:
Answer: 532 tsubo.
First, the upper width consists of 3 ken and 2 ken combined, making 5 ken. Adding the lower width of 8 ken and 6 ken, the four measurements together total 19 ken. Dividing this by four gives 4.75 ken (the average width). Multiplying this by the height of 2 ken gives 9.5 tsubo. Multiplying this by the length of 56 ken gives 532 tsubo.
