家高故不貴（いへたかきかゆえにたつとからず） 以平家為貴（ひらやをもつてたつとしとす）
尻重故難助（しりをもきゆゑにたすかりがたく） 以逃出為助（にけいつるをもつてたすかるとす）
火是一生災（ひはこれいつしやうのさい） 火｜不消共焼（けさされはともにやける）
地震万歳楽（ぢしんはこれまんさらく） 命終迄連震（いのちおはるまてつれたつてゆれる）

家が高いからといって尊いわけではない／平屋こそを尊いものとせよ
尻が重いゆえに助かりがたい／逃げ出すことをもって助かるとせよ
火はこれ一生の災いである／火を消さなければともに焼かれる
地震は万歳楽（いつまでも続くもの）である／命の終わるまで連れ立って揺れる
店（たな）を尋ねなければ決してない（見つからない）／店のない者は野（の）の陳（ちん）を張れ

A tall house is not noble by virtue of its height — regard the single-story house as noble.
Heavy-bottomed [those slow to flee] are hard to save — regard making one's escape as being saved.
Fire is a disaster for one's entire life — if you do not extinguish it, you will burn together with it.
Earthquakes are a "manzairaku" [an eternal, ever-present thing] — they will accompany you with their shaking until the end of your life.
Without searching for a shop stall, you will certainly find none — those without a shop should set up an open-air stall in the fields.
