安政二年十月二日夜四つ時、江戸四里四方に地震が突然発生し、大破した建物は数え切れないほどであった。倒壊した家屋から出火し、死者・負傷者が非常に多く出た。その中でも無事だった人は、まことに神仏の御加護があったのであろう。遠国・他国の縁者に知らせるために書くにも、被害の状況を把握するのが困難である。これによって、各所を一目で見やすくするために、出火の場所を番付にして詳細に知らせることは以下の通りである。

On the night of October 2nd, Ansei 2nd year (1855), at the hour of the Rat (around 10 PM), an earthquake suddenly struck the area within four ri (about 16 km) around Edo, causing countless buildings to collapse severely. Fires broke out from the collapsed houses, resulting in a very large number of deaths and injuries. Those who remained unharmed among all this must truly have received the divine protection of gods and Buddha. When writing to inform relatives in distant provinces and other domains, it is difficult to grasp the full extent of the damage. Therefore, to make it easy to see each location at a glance, we have arranged the fire locations in a ranking format and provide detailed information as follows.
