【右丁】
趣味を得ていると自負しながら、その偏屈で狭量な考えが君子の大雅の道に通じていないことを自ら知らず覚らない。華夷の別もなく、古今の区別もなく、学者にはしばしばこのような弊害がある。自戒すべきことである。私は元来美麗を好む者ではないが、ただ後生の人が無益な偏愛の癖に陥ることを恐れるがゆえに、これについて論じるのである。私がどうして弁論を好もうか、やむを得ないのである。先儒の活所翁が譜を作り、凡そ十五種を記したが、遺漏がなお多く、また間違いもある。私は数十種を増し加えて、一冊にまとめた。

これを「桜の品」と名付けた。これは決して大方に示そうと欲するものではなく、ただ時々繙いて眺め、吟味して玩味し、常に心を慰めて座して桜並木の観賞や平泉の賞花に対するのと同じ思いでいたいと願うものである。享保改元の仲冬の日、恕菴松玄達成章、怡顔斎にて書す。

While believing they have attained refined taste, they remain unaware that their narrow-minded and petty thinking does not align with the Way of the gentleman's great refinement. Without distinction between Chinese and Japanese, without regard for ancient and modern times, scholars often fall into such failings. This should serve as self-admonition. I am not originally one who favors beauty and splendor, but I discuss this matter only because I fear that future generations might fall into the vice of meaningless prejudiced preferences. Why would I enjoy argumentation? I cannot help myself. The previous scholar Kassho-ō compiled a catalog of approximately fifteen varieties, but many were omitted and there were errors. I have added several dozen varieties and compiled them into one volume.
