事の嬉しさよ神や仏も見捨給わぬと覚
たりと悦ひ事かきりなし長者仰ける此年月
心をくたきせいちんする待かねしに今別るゝ事
いか斗かなしく候へ共母の御つけ太夫のこゝろ
ふかけれはいかておしミ可申き尋あふとも不合共
かならす帰り候へとなく〳〵御暇給りける扨
それよりしやけん長者ニて？の有さまくわしく
かたらせ給ひよもすからの難儀を物語被成
形見のかゝミ取り出し北の方に見せ給へは
本より御子の事なれは御嬉しさ限りなく
先さき立は泪なり扨鏡の半分取出し
おし合見見給ふに何之うたかひの有へきそ一つ
の鏡となりにけり扨母君は我子かと御よ
ろこひ限なし母君仰ける様は扨は行春ハ
打タれ給ふかかなしや親子の命の親なれは行
春か心さし報しても報しかたし国主此由
聞召扨有難き太夫殿の忠臣かな臣ンたる
へき人のよき手本ふかく弔【吊】有へしと
現代語訳
その嬉しさといったら、神仏も見捨てることはなさらないのだと思われたほどで、喜びは限りがなかった。長者が申されるには「この長い年月、心配で気をもんで待っていたのに、今お別れすることがどれほど悲しいことでしょう。しかし母君への孝行、太夫の深い心を思えば、どうして惜しむことができましょうか。たとえ尋ねても会えなくても、必ずお帰りください」と泣く泣く暇を与えられた。
そこで、それまでの車軒長者での出来事の詳細を語らせなさり、夜通しの苦労話をお話しになった。形見の鏡を取り出して北の方（長者の妻）にお見せになると、
もともと我が子のことなので、お嬉しさは限りがなく、まず先に立つのは涙であった。そして鏡の半分を取り出して、押し合わせてご覧になると、何の疑いがあろうか、一つの鏡となった。そこで母君は「我が子であったか」とお喜びは限りがない。母君が仰せになるには「それでは行春は打たれなさったのか。悲しいことよ。親子の命の絆なれば、行春の心遣いは報いても報いきれない」と。国主がこのことをお聞きになり「まことにありがたい太夫殿の忠義よ。臣下たるべき人の良い手本である。深く褒賞すべきである」と。

The joy was so great that it seemed even the gods and Buddha would not abandon them, and their happiness knew no bounds. The wealthy man said, "Throughout these many years, I have waited with worry and anxiety, and now parting is so deeply saddening. However, considering your filial devotion to your mother and your profound heart, Tayu, how could I begrudge this? Even if you search and do not find her, you must return." Thus, weeping, he granted permission to leave.
Then, the detailed circumstances at the Shaken elder's place were related, and the hardships of that whole night were recounted. When the memorial mirror was taken out and shown to the kitano-kata (the wealthy man's wife),
Since it was originally about her own child, her joy was boundless, though tears came first. Then she took out her half of the mirror, and when they pressed them together to look, what doubt could there be? They became one mirror. Thus the mother realized "this is my child" and her joy was limitless. The mother said, "So Yukiharu was struck down? How sorrowful. Since we share the bond of parent and child's life, no matter how I try to repay Yukiharu's devotion, it cannot be fully repaid." When the provincial lord heard of this matter, he said, "What admirable loyalty from Lord Tayu! He is a fine example of what a retainer should be. He should be deeply rewarded."
