自を平産有我をはふくさ成物に包唐の
鏡を割て一首の歌を書て御形見に残し
母はいつくともなくうせ給ふ此事我ハ知ら
ね共太夫行春と申良等母を送りて付そい
申候か御平産の時水をもとめに行けるか母の行末
を失ひ男なから我をふところに入母の行衛
尋んと夫よりさかみの国あしからの里に着
此所四万長者に一夜の宿借給ふ此長者何
不足もなけれ共御子壱人もましまさす自を太夫に恋請ケ給ひてお乳やめのとあいそへ
いつきかしつきそたて給ふ此所に太夫もろ共ニ
十三年の春秋を送り有時大夫長者ふう婦に
申しさるゝは此年月御をん有かたく存候へ共
さりなから母君の御事片時もわすれ候わす
御暇たまハり命の内に尋逢たく候と仰けるさ
れは其夜自ラ不思議の夢をミる夢物かたり申
候へは太夫を始メ夫婦の人〻是はふしきの
御事かな扨は御はゝ君いまたなからへまします

私を安産させた後、私を袱紗のような物に包み、唐の鏡を割って一首の歌を書いて形見として残し、母はどこともなく姿を消してしまいました。このことを私は知りませんでしたが、太夫行春という男が母を送って付き添い申していましたが、出産の時に水を求めに行った際に母の行方を見失い、男でありながら私を懐に入れて母の行方を尋ねようと、それより相模の国足柄の里に着きました。この所で四万長者に一夜の宿を借り給いました。この長者は何の不足もありませんでしたが、お子が一人もいらっしゃいませんでした。私を太夫に恋い請い給い、乳母や女房を添えて大切に養い育て給いました。この所で太夫とともに十三年の春秋を送りました時、太夫が長者夫婦に申し上げることには「この年月ご恩をありがたく存じておりますが、それでも母君のことを片時も忘れることができません。お暇をいただき、命のある内に尋ね会いたく存じます」と仰いました。すると、その夜私は不思議な夢を見ました。夢の内容を申し上げますと、太夫をはじめ夫婦の人々は「これは不思議なことですね。それでは母君はまだ生きていらっしゃるのですね」

After giving birth to me safely, she wrapped me in something like a fukusa cloth, broke a Chinese mirror, wrote a poem on it as a keepsake, and mother disappeared without a trace. I did not know about this, but a man named Tayu Yukiharu, who had been accompanying and attending to my mother, lost sight of her when he went to fetch water during my birth. Though he was a man, he held me in his bosom and, seeking to find my mother's whereabouts, traveled to the village of Ashigara in Sagami Province. There, he asked a wealthy man called the Forty-Thousand-Ryo Master for lodging for one night. This wealthy man lacked nothing but had no children of his own. He earnestly requested me from the tayu, provided wet nurses and ladies-in-waiting, and raised me with great care. I spent thirteen springs and autumns there together with the tayu. One day, the tayu said to the wealthy couple: "I am deeply grateful for your kindness all these years, but even so, I cannot forget my lady mother for even a moment. I would like to take leave and seek to meet her while I still live." That night, I had a strange dream. When I told them about this dream, the tayu and the couple said, "This is indeed mysterious! Then your mother must still be alive."
