**Kimata Tosa Kinen Jiki — Complete** *(Autobiography and Chronicle of Kimata Tosa-no-kami Morikatsu)* 【Supplementary Notes】 *(Added by the transcriber)* **Overview** This document is my personal starting point. I wanted to understand its contents but could not read classical cursive script (kuzushiji) — so I decided I had no choice but to learn, and began teaching myself. Morikatsu was born in Okazaki, and at the age of 19 he left home without permission to serve Akechi Mitsuhide. He was later recalled by Tokugawa Ieyasu, but the timing of his return was remarkable — it was none other than the year before the Honnōji Incident. For this reason, theories have emerged suggesting he may have been a spy or a secret mastermind behind the incident, and the subject has even been covered in newspapers. After these events, he became a yoriki (supporting retainer) to Ii Naomasa, one of the "Four Heavenly Kings of the Tokugawa." There were retainers who objected to suddenly being placed under the command of a man six years their junior, having previously served directly under Ieyasu himself. Kimata was one of them, but their planned strike (work stoppage) was discovered in advance by Naomasa and came to nothing. This is the biography of Kimata Morikatsu, who remained at Ii Naomasa's side from the time Naomasa began his rise under the Tokugawa banner until the day Naomasa died. **A Side Note on the Source Material** The source is the National Archives of Japan Digital Archives (https://www.digital.archives.go.jp/file/1231105). However, the Hikone Castle Museum holds a related document titled *Kimata Tosa Bukō Kinen Jiki* (木俣土佐武功紀年自記), which is reportedly written in standard block script (kaisho). (I plan to compare the two texts once the full transcription is complete.) The Museum's version appears to be written in a more subjective style, whereas the present document is written in an objective manner.
