現代語訳
蟹は無実の難を言いに蹴られたけれども、正直者の頭の上に神が宿るとさらりと分かり、今更猿も顔を真っ赤にしてこれまでの仲をたんたんと謝り、またその上に蟹が世話にて夫婦の仲も直したがいに仲良く栄えけり。
御子様方のお話に、猿の敵を蟹が討ったとはあべこべ間違い。何がな春の女慰みに実説を探し出し、御覧に供え奉り候。千秋万歳、鶴亀猿蟹、めでたしめでたし。

The crab was kicked for speaking of innocent troubles, but as it became clear that gods dwell above the heads of honest folk, now even the monkey turned his face bright red and earnestly apologized for their past relationship. Moreover, with the crab's care, the married couple's relationship was restored and they prospered harmoniously.
In the stories for children, it is told backwards that the crab defeated the monkey's enemy - this is mistaken. For the spring entertainment of women, we have sought out the true account and humbly present it for your viewing. A thousand autumns and ten thousand years - cranes, turtles, monkeys, and crabs - how auspicious, how auspicious!
