**嘉永七年（1854年）寅年六月十四日の夜、大地震——四方の噂**
（付記：出火の次第、十四日の夜より十六日の暮れ方まで、七十三度震える）
○大和国南都（奈良）：十五日の暁、丑の八つ時（午前2時頃）より地震が始まり、朝五つ時（午前8時頃）に大揺れとなる。家屋は七～八割が倒壊し、即死者三百余人、負傷者は数知れず。
○同国・古市・木津あたり：同じ時刻、特にひどく揺れ、地面が裂け割れ、泥水が吹き出し、死者・負傷者が多数出た。
同国・郡山：同じ時刻に揺れ、丑の八つ時に大揺れ。市中の三割の家が倒れた。死者およそ百二、三十人、負傷者多数。おおむねこの近在も同様の被害。
○伊賀上野：十五日の暁、七つ時（午前4時頃）に甚だしく揺れ、市中の六割の家が崩れ、残り四割の家も菱（歪み）になった。その上、鍵の辻より出火し——

**The Great Earthquake of the Night of the 14th Day of the 6th Month of Kaei 7 (1854), Year of the Tiger — Rumors from All Directions**
(Note: Details of fires that broke out; the earth shook seventy-three times from the night of the 14th until the evening of the 16th.)
○ Nanto (Nara), Yamato Province: Beginning at the 8th hour of the Ox (approximately 2:00 a.m.) on the morning of the 15th, with a great tremor at the 5th hour (approximately 8:00 a.m.). Seven to eight tenths of all houses were destroyed. Over 300 people were killed instantly; the number of injured was beyond counting.
○ Furuichi and Kizu areas, same province: At the same time, the shaking was particularly violent. The ground split open and muddy water gushed forth; many people were killed or injured.
Kōriyama, same province: Shook at the same time, with a great tremor at the 8th hour of the Ox. Three tenths of houses in the town collapsed. Approximately 120 to 130 dead; many injured. All surrounding areas suffered similarly.
○ Iga Ueno: At the 7th hour (approximately 4:00 a.m.) on the morning of the 15th, the shaking was severe; six tenths of houses in the town collapsed, and the remaining four tenths were warped and skewed. Furthermore, a fire broke out at the Kagi no Tsuji intersection——
