 尊。至極皇々上帝。等ト云ヲ以テ知ルヘシ。明朝破邪集大橋  氏ノ闢邪小言。准水老人ノ深慨十律等ノ弾駁。誠ニ確実  ノ論ナリ。海内有志ノ士。一隻眼ヲ開テ。説ノ邪正ヲ分別シ玉  フヘシ。 支那ハ既ニ。彼ノ妖教大ニ流行スルニ至レトモ。吾 神州ハ。護法 善神ノ威カ盛ンニシテ。邪教ハ地ヲ掃テ跡ナシ。是全ク明君賢 相ノ賜モノ也。豈幸ナラスヤ。然ルニ彼ノ邪教ニ立ル所ノ二球ノ 説。今方サニ行ハレントス。是即チ彼邪徒。コレヲ以テ仏ノ教ヲ壊 乱スルノ戈矛トスル所ナリト。云々実ニ慨嘆ノ深キ。彼ノ書ニ就 テ験スヘシ。  因云天章師ノ詩ニ。海口又聞夷虜窺。起拈(ケトツテ)柱状_一細思惟。  山中有_二個(コノ)白雲好_一不_下是眠_二于石上_一時_上トイヘリ。然ルトキハ吾  輩ハ言フモサラナリ。神道者儒士ノ徒ト云ヘトモ。豈安閑ト  シテ之ヲ坐視シ。朝夕怙然トシテ。酔眠スヘケンヤ。三道《割書:神儒|仏 》ノ  徒。共ニ力ヲ戮セ。之ヲ闢カンコソ。今ノ世ノ一大急務ナルヘキ。然ル  ニ先儒モ。天文暦術ハ仏説ヲ推尊セリ。朱子ハ仏ヲ厭悪スルノ  甚シキナレトモ。暦ノ精ナルハ梵土ニ譲レリ。《割書:朱子語類ニ曰ク。聞季|通カ云ク。西域有九執暦》  《割書:却テ是レ順|笄ナリト》我 神州ハ本ヨリ。天象ニ精シカラス。然レトモ神代  ヲ説クニ。マタ天文ヲ言ハサルコトヲ得ス。故ニ北畠准后  親房公ノ。神皇正統紀。一条禅閤兼良公ノ。神代巻ノ簒

現代語訳

「至尊」「至極皇々上帝」などと呼ぶことからも明らかである。明朝(中国明代)の『破邪集』や大橋氏の『闢邪小言』、准水老人の『深慨十律』などによる論駁は、誠に確実な議論である。国内の志ある士は、確かな眼識を開いて、その説の邪正を見分けられるべきである。 支那(中国)ではすでに、かの妖しい教えが大いに流行するに至ったが、わが神州(日本)では、護法の善神の威力が盛んで、邪教は地を掃うように跡形もない。これはひとえに明君賢相の賜物である。なんと幸いなことではないか。しかるに、かの邪教が立てるところの「二球の説」が、今まさに広まろうとしている。これはすなわち、かの邪徒がこれをもって仏の教えを壊乱するための戈矛(武器)としているところのものだ、云々。実に慨嘆の深いことであり、かの書(洋書)に就いて確かめるべきである。 ついでに申せば、天章師の詩に「海口又聞夷虜窺、起拈柱状細思惟。山中有個白雲好、不是眠于石上時」とある。そうであるならば、われわれはもちろんのこと、神道者・儒者の徒といえども、どうして安閑としてこれを坐視し、朝夕怙然として酔いの眠りにつくことができようか。三道(神・儒・仏)の徒が共に力を合わせてこれを排斥することこそ、今の世の一大急務であるべきだ。しかるに先儒(先代の儒者)も、天文暦術については仏説を推し尊んでいた。朱子は仏を厭い憎むこと甚だしかったけれども、暦の精妙さについては梵土(インド)に譲っていた(朱子語類に言う。季通が言うには、「西域に九執暦というものがあり、かえってこれが正確である」と)。わが神州はもとより天象に詳しくはない。しかしながら神代を説くにあたって、また天文を語らないわけにはいかない。それゆえ、北畠准后親房公の『神皇正統記』、一条禅閤兼良公の神代巻の纂(編纂)…

This can be understood from the fact that [the deity of Christianity] is referred to as "the Most Venerable," "the Supreme and Most High Sovereign Emperor," and similar titles. The refutations found in the Ming dynasty's *Poxie ji* (Collection Against Heterodoxy), Lord Ōhashi's *Hekija shōgen* (Brief Words Against Heterodoxy), and Junsui Rōjin's *Shinkai jūritsu* (Ten Rules of Deep Lamentation) are truly sound and reliable arguments. Men of aspiration throughout the land should open their discerning eye and distinguish between the orthodox and the heterodox in these teachings. Although China has already reached the point where that pernicious religion has spread widely, in our Divine Land (Japan), the power of the guardian deities of the Dharma is flourishing, and the heterodox religion has been swept clean without a trace. This is entirely owing to the benevolence of enlightened rulers and wise ministers. Is this not a great fortune? Yet the "theory of two spheres" established by that heterodox religion is now on the verge of spreading here. This is precisely the weapon—the spear and halberd—that those heterodox followers use to disrupt and destroy the teachings of the Buddha. Indeed, the depth of one's indignation [at this situation] should be verified by examining those [Western] writings. By the way, in a poem by the Venerable Tenshō, it is written: "At the harbor mouth, I hear again that the foreign barbarians spy upon us; I take up my writing brush and ponder carefully. In the mountains there are fine white clouds, but this is no time to sleep upon the rocks." If this is so, then not only we [Buddhists] but also those of the Shinto and Confucian traditions—how could they calmly stand by and watch this, sleeping drunkenly morning and evening without a care? It must be the most urgent task of our times for the adherents of the Three Ways (Shinto, Confucianism, and Buddhism) to unite their efforts and refute [this heterodox teaching]. Furthermore, even earlier Confucian scholars esteemed Buddhist teachings with regard to astronomy and calendar science. Although Zhu Xi was most extreme in his contempt for Buddhism, he conceded to the land of Brahma (India) on the matter of the precision of the calendar. (According to the *Zhuzi yulei*: "I have heard that Ji Tong said there is a 'Nine Celestial Bodies Calendar' in the Western Regions, and that it is in fact more accurate.") Our Divine Land has not traditionally been well-versed in celestial phenomena. Nevertheless, in explaining the Age of the Gods, one cannot avoid speaking of astronomy. Therefore, in [works such as] Lord Kitabatake Chikafusa's (the Provisional Grand Minister's) *Jinnō Shōtōki* (Chronicle of the Direct Descent of Gods and Sovereigns), and in Lord Ichijō Kanera's (the former Regent's) compilation of the chapters on the Age of the Gods...
