其後ながく朽（くち）ず。まことにありがたき御 加持（かぢ）
なり。心なきくち木だに。かゝるためしあり。
いはんや有情（うじやう）をや。かの欒巴（らんは）がさかづきの酒（さけ）
を。はいて。遠火災（えんくはさい）をすくひ。趙炳（ちやうへい）がかれたる
木を呪（しゆ）して。ふたゝび枝葉（しよう）をしげらしける。

その後、橋は長く朽ちることがなかった。まことにありがたい御加持（おかじ）であった。心なき朽ち木でさえ、このような霊験があったのだ。まして心ある生き物においては言うまでもないことである。かの欒巴（らんは）が杯の酒を吹きかけて遠くの火災を救い、趙炳（ちょうへい）が枯れた木に呪術を施して、再び枝葉を繁らせたと伝えられている。神仙の術をもってしても、このような事例には及びがたいであろう。

From that time on, the bridge never rotted again. Truly, this was a most wondrous and sacred blessing through Kūkai's empowerment. Even a mindless piece of rotting wood was subject to such a miraculous effect — how much more so, then, for sentient beings. It is told that Luan Ba (欒巴) once spat wine from his cup and thereby extinguished a distant fire, and that Zhao Bing (趙炳) cast a spell upon a withered tree and caused its branches and leaves to flourish once more. Yet even the arts of the immortals and sages could hardly be said to match such wondrous examples as these.
