大師御入定の事へんとにいまた其例なしといへと。西天
竺（ぢく）鶏足（けいそく）山（さん）の例（れい）になぞらへ給ふ故か大 宝積（ほうしやく）経（きやう）に菩薩（ぼさつ）
の修定（しゆぢやう）に。十 種（しゆ）の法（ほう）を説（とく）に。第（だい）十には。よく正法をお
こし。三 宝（ほう）を紹降（ぜうりう）して絶（たへ）さゞらんといへり。されは高野（かうや）
の樹下（じゆげ）に住（ぢう）し給ふて。慈尊（じそん）の出世（しゆつせ）にいたるまで。国家（こつか）
の福利（ふくり）をまし。仏法（ぶつほう）の恵命（ゑみやう）をつぐはかりことをなし
給ふいづれの祖師（そし）といへども。いかでか弘法（こうぼう）大師（だいし）に及び

**大師御入定のこと**
（大師の御入定は）わが国においてまだその前例がないとはいえ、西天竺（インド）の鶏足山の例になぞらえられるためであろうか、『大宝積経』に菩薩の修定について十種の法を説くなかで、第十には「よく正法を興し、三宝を受け継いで絶えることのないようにする」とある。それゆえ、高野山の樹下に住まわれて、慈尊（弥勒菩薩）がこの世に出られる時まで、国家の福利を増し、仏法の恵命をつなぐことをなさっているのである。いかなる祖師といえども、どうして弘法大師に及ぶことができようか。まことにありがたいことである。

**On the Great Master's Entry into Meditative Samādhi (Nyūjō)**
Although there is as yet no precedent for this in our land, perhaps it is because it is likened to the example of Kukkuṭapādagiri (Cock's Foot Mountain) in Western India. In the *Mahāratnakūṭa Sūtra* (*Daibōshaku-kyō*), among the ten dharmas expounded concerning a bodhisattva's meditative practice (*shūjō*), the tenth states: "One should skillfully promote the True Dharma and carry on the Three Treasures so that they shall never be extinguished." Thus, dwelling beneath the trees of Kōyasan until the advent of Maitreya (the future Buddha), he continues to increase the blessings and welfare of the nation and to sustain the life-giving grace of the Buddha-Dharma. Among all patriarchs and founding masters, how could any possibly equal Kōbō Daishi? This is truly a most wondrous and grateful thing.
