遣候筈入湯之節ハ御法度書為指出候事
一明和三戌十一月大御目付中御廻状之写夫々相触之
諸職人受領蒙 勅許候者共継目之受領不相願父或者祖父蒙 勅許候受領と子孫名乗
候者共も有之趣ニ相聞候若右体之者共有之候ハヽ向後国名并官名共ニ自分相名乗候儀者
可為無用候尤継目之受領相願候儀ハ可為勝手次第候
右之趣御料ハ御代官私領ハ領主地頭ゟ可相触者也
一明和二酉三月二日御鍛冶嶋田吉左衛門地名子町医上野専隆と申者相願町支配ニ被仰付候事
一安永八亥十二月三日嶋田助右衛門病死同廿四日家督被仰付候
一寛政二正月廿四日家建替之事

一文化八未十月十五日下坂市左衛門養父令病死候ニ付市左衛門儀定式之通忌掛引籠候旨相達候
但御腰物方ゟ御用之儀申来候節ハ右忌掛り可差免事
一同十酉八月鉄炮金具師宮川佐次兵衛地面之内表通りニ是迄地名子付置候処右之続ニ此
度松屋町大工米吉与申者弟同金次郎と申者ニ家作為仕賃渡申候旨申聞候ニ付其段為心

一享和元酉五月十一日御武具跡部彦一郎申聞候ハ御鉄炮師若林庄五郎儀忌掛り引込罷
罷在候処御武具方指掛り御用有之候間忌早速指免候様申聞候ニ付御鍛冶上席嶋田吉左衛門へ庄五郎
忌今日ゟ御免被成候間致出勤候様可相達旨申達之
一同年九月三日嶋田吉左衛門別紙之通相達候ニ付同役評議之上勝手次第差越様可申付旨申達之
竪物 江州国共富岡内記と申者私間柄ニ御座候ニ付家業向相談仕度儀御座候間近々忰兵助指

現代語訳
遣わす予定である。入湯の際は御法度書を提出させることとする。
一、明和三年戌十一月、大御目付中の御廻状の写しを、それぞれに触れ知らせた。
諸職人で受領を蒙り勅許を受けた者たちが、継目の受領を願い出ずに、父あるいは祖父が勅許を蒙った受領名を子孫が名乗っている者たちもいるという話を聞いている。もしそのような者たちがいるならば、今後国名並びに官名ともに自分で勝手に名乗ることは無用とすべきである。もっとも継目の受領を願い出ることは勝手次第とする。
右の趣旨について、御料は御代官、私領は領主・地頭より触れ知らせるべきものである。
一、明和二年酉三月二日、御鍛冶嶋田吉左衛門の地名子である町医師上野専隆という者が願い出て、町支配に仰せ付けられた。
一、安永八年亥十二月三日、嶋田助右衛門が病死し、同月二十四日に家督を仰せ付けられた。
一、寛政二年正月二十四日、家の建て替えの件
一、同年同月、若林庄五郎の立て替えの件
一、文化八年未十月十五日、下坂市左衛門の養父が病死したため、市左衛門は定式の通り忌掛けで引き籠もる旨を届け出た。
ただし御腰物方より御用の件で申し出があった際は、右忌掛かりを差し免じることとする。
一、同十年酉八月、鉄炮金具師宮川佐次兵衛の地面の内、表通りにこれまで地名子を付けていた所の続きに、この度松屋町の大工米吉という者の弟で同じく金次郎という者に家作をして賃渡しをする旨を申し聞かせてきたので、その段を心得のため町奉行へ申し達した。
一、享和元年酉五月十一日、御武具の跡部彦一郎が申し聞かせるには、御鉄炮師若林庄五郎が忌掛かりで引き込んでいる所、御武具方の差し掛かりで御用があるので、忌を早速差し免じるよう申し聞かせてきたため、御鍛冶上席嶋田吉左衛門へ、庄五郎の忌を今日より御免になるので出勤するよう伝達すべき旨を申し達した。
一、同年九月三日、嶋田吉左衛門が別紙の通り伝達してきたため、同役評議の上、勝手次第差し越すよう申し付ける旨を伝達した。
書状 近江国の富岡内記という者は私の間柄でございますので、家業向きの相談をしたい件がございます。近々息子兵助を差し越し、しばらく逗留させたく存じます。右の通り仰せ付けいただきますよう願い奉ります。この等の趣を御目付中まで宜しく仰せ上げいただけますでしょうか。以上 九月 嶋田吉左衛門殿 若林庄五郎印

一、享和二年三月、左の通り願い出てきたため御家老中へ相伺いした所、勝手次第申し付けるよう仰せ聞かされた。右の庄五郎の願いの通り休息を仰せ付け、息子兵助という者には御擬作その外御用向きを親の通り仰せ付けられた段を、兵助を評定所へ召し呼び、嶋田吉左衛門を同席させて申し渡した。
口上の覚
私は近年病身となり、勤めが甚だ難儀しております。これにつき休息を仰せ付けていただきたく願います。息子兵助も年頃になりましたので、跡式を相違なく仰せ付けていただきたく内々に願っております。この等の趣を御目付中まで宜しく仰せ上げいただけますでしょうか。以上

They are scheduled to be sent. When taking hot spring baths, they must submit written prohibitions.
1. In the 11th month of Meiwa 3 (1766), copies of circular notices from the senior inspectors (ōmetsuke) were distributed to each relevant party.
Regarding various craftsmen who have received court ranks and imperial permission: there are reports that some continue to use hereditary court titles without applying for succession, while descendants use the court ranks that their fathers or grandfathers received imperial permission for. If such persons exist, henceforth they should not arbitrarily use provincial names or official titles. However, applying for hereditary succession of court ranks remains at their discretion.
This directive should be communicated through magistrates for shogunal lands and through lords and landlords for private domains.
1. On the 2nd day of the 3rd month of Meiwa 2 (1765), Ueno Sen'ryū, a town physician who was a retainer of the official blacksmith Shimada Kichizaemon, petitioned and was placed under town administration.
1. On the 3rd day of the 12th month of An'ei 8 (1779), Shimada Sukeemon died of illness, and on the 24th day of the same month, family succession was granted.
1. On the 24th day of the 1st month of Kansei 2 (1790), regarding house reconstruction.
1. In the same year and month, regarding Wakabayashi Shōgorō's replacement.
1. On the 15th day of the 10th month of Bunka 8 (1811), Shimasaka Ichizaemon's adoptive father died of illness, so Ichizaemon reported that he would observe the customary mourning period in seclusion.
However, when official duties are requested by the sword department, the mourning restrictions may be lifted.
1. In the 8th month of the 10th year (1813), gunsmith metalworker Miyakawa Sajibei reported that he would construct a house for Kinjirō, the brother of carpenter Yonekichi from Matsuyamachi, adjacent to his existing property on the main street where he had previously housed retainers. This matter was reported to the town magistrate for information.
1. On the 11th day of the 5th month of Kyōwa 1 (1801), weapons official Atobe Hikoichirō reported that gunsmith Wakabayashi Shōgorō was in mourning seclusion, but urgent weapons department business required his immediate release from mourning. Therefore, senior blacksmith Shimada Kichizaemon was instructed to inform Shōgorō that his mourning period would be lifted from that day and he should report for duty.
1. On the 3rd day of the 9th month of the same year, Shimada Kichizaemon submitted the attached document, and after consultation among colleagues, he was told to proceed at his discretion.
Document: Tomioka Naiki of Ōmi Province is my acquaintance, so I wish to consult about business matters. I would like to send my son Heisuke there soon for a brief stay. 1. On the 3rd day of the 4th month of Bunka 1 (1804), gunsmith Wakabayashi Heisuke submitted the following report, and colleagues were informed that it would be discussed.

Tomioka Sentarō of the Sabae domain retainers, who is my acquaintance, has requested to come to my place for lodging and apprenticeship to learn the trade. I have temporarily accepted him. I report this matter for your acknowledgment. Respectfully,

1. In the 3rd month of Kyōwa 2 (1802), the following petition was submitted, and when consulted with the senior retainers, they said to proceed at discretion. Shōgorō's request for retirement was granted as petitioned, and his son Heisuke was appointed to handle official replicas and other duties like his father. Heisuke was summoned to the council chamber and this was conveyed in the presence of Shimada Kichizaemon.
Memorandum
I have become ill in recent years and find my duties extremely difficult. Therefore, I wish to petition for retirement. My son Heisuke has come of age, so I privately hope he may be granted succession without change. Please convey this matter favorably to the inspectors. Respectfully,
