1. On December 21st of the same year, regarding the handling of the barrier gate (jōguchi) in Edo, it was ordered to be handled by the inner storehouse official (oku onando-yaku) according to precedent. If there is barrier gate duty when going to the outer palace on official business, each person should consult beforehand so that there are no gaps in attendance at the inner chambers. This should be understood accordingly. However, regarding this matter, the barrier gate affairs should be handled without hesitation, as conveyed by Akashi Shōgen to Akita Sangozaemon and Suzuki Jūzaemon. "Same as above, but both men need not hesitate to go from the barrier gate to the inner chambers," conveyed by the same person to Shimoyama Shichirōemon and Tsuda Tōzaemon. "Since barrier gate handling has been ordered according to precedent, it should be performed with utmost care. When on duty, if there is barrier gate business while going to the outer palace on official business, this has been ordered to Akita Sangozaemon, Suzuki Jūzaemon, Shimoyama Shichirōemon, and Tsuda Tōzaemon so that there are no gaps in the inner chambers, and this should be understood accordingly," conveyed by the same person to Tsuda Shinbei and Tateiwa Buzaemon. 1. On May 27th, Kan'en 1 (1748): Financial affairs supervisor: Matsudaira Hyōbu Family genealogy supervisor: Hasebe Koemon Family genealogy supervisor: Honda Minbu Same as above: Takahashi Tomōemon Same as above: Sasaji Gonemon The above person, from today the 27th at the lord's quarters by Honda Minbu Same as above: Itō Sōji was conveyed, with Nara Gonzaemon present The above persons were appointed on the 24th, as conveyed by Minbu. [Lower section] On August 19th, Kan'en 2 (1749), Nakane Yukie reported that both attendant martial heads were in mourning seclusion, so he contacted the duty officer that Oka Saburōemon's mourning was lifted from today, and this should be acknowledged. 1. On December 11th, Shōtoku 2 (1712), Shijōten Matahei of the boat bridge service of the castle guard submitted a written statement: During Shibata Shūri no Suke's time, in Tenshō 6 (1578), a boat bridge was first constructed. Regarding the boats of the boat bridge, they came from harbors throughout Echizen Province. Since that time, to the officials managing the boat bridge, various harbors have brought annual New Year's congratulatory sake money and one type of fish each year. Also, during autumn when the boats are repaired, they bring salted fish. All of these have been customarily received. When Lord Kōmon entered the domain, ancestor Matahei consulted with the senior retainers through magistrate Hayashi Kyūsuke, and was told to accept them if it was customary, so they have been accepted for generations. Even when a pledge was ordered during Lord Tangen-ji's time to stop receiving gifts from various officials, nothing was specifically ordered to Matahei, and to this day, both public and private domain harbors continue to bring gifts every spring and autumn as in ancient times. Having received notice not to accept presents (mainai) this time, he respectfully reports this refusal, conveyed through monthly duty castle keeper Nagami Jibuemon. Since a list of these tribute items (abbreviated) was submitted, after consultation among us, this has been an ancient national custom practiced by both public and private domains, so it is a special matter and should be accepted without hesitation, as communicated to Jibuemon. Of course, this matter was also reported to Edo. 1. On April 16th, Enkyō 2 (1745), since the sixth guard inspectors are all low-ranking men with no one available, and the document boxes containing the registers would be unattended and worrisome in case of fire, and there would be no one to carry out these registers during group meetings, causing hardship, two attendants (arako) were now assigned and lent to the entire group of guard inspectors. Additionally, 200 mon for emergency foot money and writing materials as before were provided to the entire group. This should be communicated, and of course this matter should also be communicated to colleagues, as instructed to Matsubara Saburōbei. 1. On March 4th, year 4 of the same era, the children of the officials take turns going to the secretaries' room daily and staying during the day. Of course, when the officials and attendants also go to the lord's presence in the morning, they should accompany them to the lord's presence as instructed, but this is not strictly guard duty. The matter of the children of the ceremony officials is that they should take turns going to the secretaries' room daily during the day, and when summoned, they should also go to the lord's presence. 1. On the last day of February, Bunsei 4 (1821), since there is currently only one foot soldier captain, when reporting that various duties are suspended due to mourning, etc., this should be reported to the officials. For this one person, according to what was ordered in Bunsei 1 (1818), in such cases, consultation should be made with the escort captain, and in years when the lord is absent, consultation should be made after establishing a monthly duty etiquette officer, as ordered on June 24th. During this seclusion period, there should be communication about which escort captain or etiquette officer is on monthly duty, but since this was the first time such an order was given, this matter was omitted. Therefore, in the future, such matters should be communicated, as monthly duty captain Ōsaki Shichidayū informed foot soldier captain Nakayama Tōemon. Accordingly, in the future, when making such communications, they should be made to the monthly duty official. Also, the matter of who serves as monthly duty should be communicated to the magistrate's inner secretary as with other matters. Record book.
