御役吟味
一御役明有之節御侍共之内存寄致吟味書付可指出之由◦御家老中被申聞候節右名元書付
御家老中へ申達ル前々入 御覧筈
但右書付入 御覧候得共御家老中江ハ此儀可秘也
一御役替有之前方ニ吟味書付指出候様御家老中被申聞候節仲間之内ー御目付之事 ニ而右御役へ
存寄之者有之時分右存寄口上ニ而申達ルハ格別書付ニ而ハ可為無用旨御家老
中被申聞候
一享保六丑年被仰出御役明有之吟味之節唯今迄ハ一度御役御免之者ハ書付出シ不申
候得共不得手之御役ニ而ハ御免被成《見せ消ち：候ケ｜候》様之者ハ向後吟味之書付へ書《見せ消ち：付｜入》可申事幾ツ
計と年可書事《割書：丑十月八日御役明有之吟味之書付差出候時分其者之年書付可申候聢と知不申候ハヽ幾ツ計と此以後
書可申由酒井丹下方大谷儀左衛門へ被申渡候 八百里案スルニ諸事留ニハ如此有之》
一御土蔵番侍中最前現身御取立四人其後増其後被減六人ニ成又明和六丑年弐人
増都合八人ニ相成候
一御勝手へ付候御役ハ撰候儀先御奉行へ被仰付奉行差出候書付を御家老中ゟ御目付へ御渡有之
此方ニ而委細致吟味候上申達候事

御役吟味
一、御役明き（職の空席）がある際、御侍共の中から適任者を吟味して書付を提出すべき旨を御家老中が申し聞かせる際、右の名前を記した書付は御家老中へ申し上げる前に、まず御覧に入れることになっている。
ただし、右の書付を御覧いただいても、御家老中には此の件は秘密にしなければならない。
一、御役替えがある前もって吟味書付を提出するよう御家老中が申し聞かせる際、仲間の内で御目付のことについて、右の御役への適任者がいる時分、右の推薦を口上で申し上げるのは格別だが、書付では無用とすべき旨を御家老中が申し聞かせた。
一、享保六年丑年に仰せ出された、御役明きがある吟味の節、今までは一度御役を御免になった者は書付を出していなかったが、不得手な御役で御免になったような者は、今後吟味の書付に記入すべきこと、いくつくらいの年齢かを書くこと。（割書：丑十月八日御役明きがある吟味の書付を差し出す時分、その者の年齢を書付に記すべきである。はっきりと知らない場合は「いくつくらい」と今後書くべき旨を酒井丹下方大谷儀左衛門へ申し渡した。八百里が案ずるに諸事留にはこのように記されている）
一、御土蔵番侍中、最初現身御取立四人、その後増員、その後減員して六人になり、また明和六年丑年に二人増員して都合八人になった。
一、御勝手に付く御役は選考の件をまず御奉行へ仰せ付け、奉行が差し出す書付を御家老中から御目付へお渡しがあり、こちらで詳細に吟味した上で申し上げることになっている。

Examination for Official Positions
1. When there are vacant official positions, and the senior retainers (karo) instruct that qualified candidates should be examined from among the samurai and written reports submitted, the list of names should first be presented for inspection before being reported to the senior retainers.
However, even though such written reports are inspected, this matter must be kept secret from the senior retainers.
1. When senior retainers instruct that examination documents should be submitted in advance of personnel changes, if there are suitable candidates for inspector positions among colleagues, oral recommendations are acceptable, but written recommendations should be avoided, as instructed by the senior retainers.
1. As proclaimed in the sixth year of Kyoho (1721), Year of the Ox, regarding examinations when official positions become vacant: until now, those who had been dismissed from positions once did not submit written reports, but henceforth, those dismissed from positions they were unsuited for should be included in examination documents, along with their approximate age. (Marginal note: When submitting examination documents for vacant positions on the 8th day of the 10th month of the Ox year, the age of such persons should be recorded. If not precisely known, it should be written as "approximately X years old" as instructed to Otani Gizaemon through Sakai Tange. According to Happyakuri's analysis, this is how it appears in the records of various matters)
1. Regarding treasury guard samurai: initially four were appointed from the ranks, later increased, then reduced to six, and in the sixth year of Meiwa (1769), Year of the Ox, two more were added, making a total of eight.
1. For positions attached to financial administration, selection matters are first assigned to the magistrate, and the documents submitted by the magistrate are passed from the senior retainers to the inspectors, who conduct detailed examinations before reporting.
