英語訳

**Preamble to Inspector Group Oath** 1. As the head has been appointed to his official position, we have now been newly ordered to submit written oaths, which we humbly accept. 1. We shall diligently perform our official duties without any negligence whatsoever. First and foremost, regarding matters concerning our lord's interests, we shall report truthfully regardless of whether the matter is favorable or unfavorable. 1. Regarding secret official business, it goes without saying, and for all other official matters, we shall not speak of them to others or show them to others, even to parents, children, or siblings. 1. If we hear any rumors about our head's personal affairs or those of the main family branch members, we shall report both favorable and unfavorable matters without fail. 1. When dispatched on official business to our domain or to other provinces and domains, we shall not cause any disturbances. Additionally, we shall not accept any gifts in connection with official duties. 1. Regarding deliberations, we shall show no favoritism or partiality, even toward parents, children, siblings, main family, or relatives. 1. At our duty stations, we shall not engage in heavy drinking or licentiousness, and generally shall not accept elaborate entertainment. We shall also not commit any other improper acts. 1. Those who serve as scribes shall not show or speak to others about official documents and waste paper related to all official business, and shall not handle official paper carelessly. Those who violate these articles shall reverently receive the wrath of Bonten, Taishaku, the Four Great Heavenly Kings, and generally all the great and small deities of Japan's sixty-odd provinces, particularly the great deities of Izu, Hakone, Mishima, and Tenman Tenjin. Those who violate the intent of this preamble shall receive divine punishment and retribution in the afterlife. Therefore, this oath is written accordingly. 1. On the 15th day of the 10th month of Kyōhō 20 (1735), Kimura Kyūdayu, who was employed to replace Yoshimura Tanzō in the inspector monthly duty supervisory group, was ordered to submit a written oath, and thereafter squad leader Shimizu Kanemon was instructed to have him perform water patrol, night patrol, and other duties. **Regarding Guarantor Bonds When Employing Inspector Group Members** Submitted Guarantor Bond 1. A person named So-and-so has been employed in your group, and I stand as guarantor. His religious sect is not Christian, but rather [specific sect], and I submit the seal certificate thereof. Should this person abscond, I shall locate him within five days and deliver him. If there are any matters of personal greed, the guarantor shall make compensation and promptly deliver payment. 1. Regarding the Shogunate's prohibitions, it goes without saying, and regarding all matters ordered by the senior retainers, he shall not violate anything. 1. Regarding guaranteeing servants who go to other provinces or domains, it goes without saying, and I shall firmly not stand as verbal guarantor. Of course, I shall not stand as guarantor for gold, silver, rice, or money transactions with people from other provinces or domains. 1. He shall constantly refrain from personal wrongdoing, improper conduct, heavy drinking, gambling, and such. Especially at official duty stations, he shall particularly observe these restrictions. 1. For domain pilgrimages and whatever business requires travel anywhere, he shall perform escort duty wherever needed. He shall not withdraw without being granted leave. 1. If he dies disgracefully, is lost, or commits misconduct and is granted dismissal, according to regulations he shall repay his rice stipend and group joint guarantee debts through the guarantor, who shall make proper compensation and prompt repayment. 1. He shall not form factions or engage in lawsuit-like appeals regardless of the matter. These articles shall be strictly observed. Those who violate them, not only the person himself but also the guarantors, shall be subject to whatever punishment is decreed.
