一同十八丑十月十二日御家中武芸以御名代被仰付御家老中登城有之於御本丸酒井玄蕃方被申聞候ハ今朝登城之節御
橋先ニ御徒目付勝田門蔵罷在候処自分へ之時宜致様不宜ニ付同席之衆中へも承合候へ共何も同事之趣ニ候古来
御徒目付共時宜之様子とハ各別違只今ハ惣体時宜高ク見分も不宜候別而今日門蔵時宜之趣余り敷様子ニ候此以
後段々新役之者抔出来候節何も見習可申候ヘハ如何之事ニ候外ゟ見分も悪敷候間月番源左衛門ゟ同役半右衛門へも申談
急度申聞候様ニ被申聞候ニ付則半右衛門へ申談即日之御用番松原治右衛門へ門蔵同道源太左衛門宅迄罷越候様申聞候処
両人罷出候故玄蕃方被申聞候趣急度申渡候処門蔵申候ハとかく之申分ハ難仕不調法之儀致迷惑候只今迄随分仲
間申談同し様ニ御時宜をも致し候儀今日とても毎もニ何之相替儀も無御座候処御見咎被成候儀不及是非候此節遠慮を
も可仕哉と申聞候故先差扣罷在候様申聞其段玄蕃方へ申達候処此以後惣体御徒目付共心得之為ニ候間同席之
衆中へも申談先刻之通御自分迄申達候門蔵儀致得心致迷惑候段申事ニ候ヘハ其通之事ニ候不及遠慮其儘相勤候

一同十九寅八月廿四日御徒目付跡部又八此間瘧相煩候処長髪御免被下候ハヽ仲間人少ニ候間御目通ニ而無之所之分相勤申度旨申聞其段
御家老中へ申達相伺候処御前ハ遠慮可仕事ニ候へ共人少ニ候ハヽ仮役可申付旨岡部左膳方被申聞ニ付仮役ニ可被仰付御徒之者
書付御家老中入披見候処 御前へ可申上旨被申聞候ニ付右之趣御前へ罷出半右衛門申上候処又八長髪ニ而も可相勤と申候ハヽ御目通
共ニ無御構思召候間為相勤仮役申付候儀ハ無用可仕旨被仰出其段御家老中へ申達又八へも申聞候
一寛保元酉十二月十六日毛屋御徒目付繰舟世話番不相勤旨留有之繰舟之条ニ出之
一延享二丑三月廿九日明晦日御貝役中武芸御覧罷出候ニ付此節御軍帳御用所御貝役泊助御徒目付両人差出候様掛り御奏
者申聞候得共是迄壱人ならてハ不差出候間両人ハ難差出旨申達候へ共何も相済候上其上及晩景ニも候故先此度ハ両人差
出之重而ハ相糺可申筈之旨
一同四卯十月十六日御徒目付岡十次兵衛義病気及大切候ニ付実子五才ニ付安部武左衛門末子仁九郎養子致度願候事
一寛延二巳二月八日本多民部方被申聞候ハ御徒目付岩佐長右衛門義御内御用被仰付御徒飛脚として播州姫路へ指遣候様被申聞依之長右衛門明九日ゟ道中
五日振ニ而罷越候様申付差遣候尤爰元御家老中ゟ姫路御家老中迄書状被指越拙者共ゟもあの方御目付役迄書状相認差越候右長右衛門雑用銀御
定之通請取御内証ゟ金子弐両御貸被成則相渡候御貸人御長柄之者弐人内一人状箱持荒子一人召連之
一元禄三午三月十五日御徒目付共為御用在辺へ罷出候節五年以来野扶持被下候へ共
跡々之通向後雑用被下置候様ニ仕度旨内々御目付共申達候右以前之通雑用ニ被成下旨
御目付海福猪兵衛へ申渡之尤奉行中へも申聞候也
現代語訳
一、享保十一年午七月十一日 先月九日に御徒目付に任命された伊藤与助について、御用筋見習を申し付けるので、もはや御用番へ割り入れるよう岡本小八郎へ申し聞かせた。
一、同十八年丑十月十二日 御家中武芸で御名代を申し付けられ、御家老中登城があり、御本丸において酒井玄蕃方から申し聞かされたのは、今朝登城の節、御橋先に御徒目付勝田門蔵が罷り在ったところ、自分への時宜の仕方が宜しくないので、同席の衆中へも承り合わせたが、皆同じ事であった。古来の御徒目付共の時宜の様子とは各別に違い、只今は総体時宜が高く見分も宜しくない。特に今日の門蔵の時宜の趣は余りにひどい様子である。この後段々新役の者など出来る節に皆見習うであろうから、いかがなものか。外から見分も悪しきので、月番源左衛門から同役半右衛門へも申し談じ、急度申し聞くよう申し聞かされた。そこで則ち半右衛門へ申し談じ、即日の御用番松原治右衛門へ門蔵同道で源太左衛門宅まで罷り越すよう申し聞かせたところ、両人罷り出たので、玄蕃方から申し聞かされた趣を急度申し渡した。門蔵が申すには「とかくの申し分は仕り難く、不調法の儀で迷惑している。只今まで随分仲間と申し談じ同じように御時宜をも致していたが、今日とても毎度に何の相違もございませんでしたが、御見咎めを成された儀は是非に及ばない。この節遠慮をも致すべきか」と申し聞いたので、先ず差し控えて罷り在るよう申し聞き、その段を玄蕃方へ申し達したところ、この後総体御徒目付共の心得のためであるので、同席の衆中へも申し談じ、先刻の通り御自分まで申し達した。門蔵の儀、得心して迷惑している段申す事であれば、その通りの事である。遠慮に及ばず、その儘相勤めるよう申し聞かされ、その段を松原治右衛門まで申し通した。
一、同十九年寅八月二十四日 御徒目付跡部又八、この間瘧を相煩ったが、長髪御免を下されれば、仲間人少なので、御目通りではない所の分を相勤めたい旨申し聞き、その段を御家老中へ申し達し相伺ったところ、御前は遠慮すべき事であるが、人少なであれば仮役を申し付けるべき旨、岡部左膳方から申し聞かされた。仮役に申し付けられるべき御徒の者の書付を御家老中が入披見したところ、御前へ申し上げるべき旨申し聞かされたので、右の趣御前へ罷り出て半右衛門が申し上げたところ、又八長髪でも相勤めると申すならば、御目通り共に御構いなく思し召すので、相勤めるため仮役申し付ける儀は無用にすべき旨仰せ出され、その段を御家老中へ申し達し、又八へも申し聞かせた。
一、寛保元年酉十二月十六日 毛屋御徒目付、繰舟世話番を相勤めない旨留書有り、繰舟の条に出ている。
一、延享二年丑三月二十九日 明晦日御貝役中武芸御覧に罷り出るにつき、この節御軍帳御用所御貝役泊助御徒目付両人差し出すよう掛り御奏者が申し聞いたが、これまで一人でなければ差し出さないので両人は差し出し難い旨申し達したが、皆相済んだ上、その上晩景にも及んだので、先ずこの度は両人差し出し、重ねては相糾すべき筈である旨。
一、同四年卯十月十六日 御徒目付岡十次兵衛、病気が大切に及んだにつき、実子五歳なので、安部武左衛門末子仁九郎を養子にしたい旨願い出た事。
一、寛延二年巳二月八日 本多民部方から申し聞かされたのは、御徒目付岩佐長右衛門に御内御用を申し付け、御徒飛脚として播州姫路へ指し遣わすよう申し聞かされた。これにより長右衛門明九日から道中五日振りで罷り越すよう申し付け差し遣わした。もっとも、ここ元御家老中から姫路御家老中まで書状を指し越され、拙者共からもあちら方御目付役まで書状を認めて差し越した。右長右衛門雑用銀を御定めの通り請け取り、御内証から金子二両御貸しを成され則ち相渡した。御貸人御長柄の者二人、内一人状箱持ち、荒子一人召し連れた。
一、元禄三年午三月十五日 御徒目付共御用のため在辺へ罷り出る節、五年以来野扶持を下されているが、跡々の通り向後雑用を下し置かれるようにしたい旨、内々御目付共が申し達した。右以前の通り雑用に下される旨、
御目付海福猪兵衛へ申し渡した。もっとも奉行中へも申し聞かせた。

Same [Kyōhō] 18, Year of the Ox, 10th month, 12th day: When a representative was appointed for martial arts in the retainer group and the senior councilors ascended to the castle, Sakai Genba reported at the main castle that this morning during his castle visit, 御徒目付 Katsuta Monzō was present at the bridge entrance, but his manner of greeting was improper. When he consulted with his colleagues, they all agreed on the same matter. This differs greatly from the traditional manner of greetings by 御徒目付, and currently the overall manner of greetings is too elevated and the appearance is poor. Particularly today, Monzō's manner of greeting was excessively poor. Since new appointees will learn by example when they appear in the future, this is problematic. Since the appearance from outside is also poor, monthly duty officer Genzaemon should consult with colleague Hanemon and strictly address this matter. Accordingly, he consulted with Hanemon, and instructed that day's duty officer Matsubara Jiemon to accompany Monzō to Gentazaemon's residence. When both appeared, the matter reported by Genba was strictly communicated. Monzō stated: "I cannot make various excuses, and I am troubled by this impropriety. Until now, I have consulted sufficiently with my colleagues and conducted greetings in the same manner. Even today, there was nothing different from usual, but since you have found fault, it cannot be helped. Should I exercise restraint at this time?" Since he asked this, he was told to refrain and remain withdrawn for now, and this was reported to Genba. Since this is for the understanding of all 御徒目付 in the future, he also consulted with his colleagues and reported to his superior as mentioned earlier. Since Monzō understood and expressed his concern, this was acceptable. He was told that restraint was unnecessary and to continue serving as before, and this was communicated to Matsubara Jiemon.

Same [Kyōhō] 19, Year of the Tiger, 8th month, 24th day: 御徒目付 Sakabe Matahachi suffered from malaria during this period, and requested that if permission for long hair were granted, since there were few colleagues, he would like to serve in positions not requiring direct audience with the lord. When this matter was reported to and consulted with the senior councilors, Okabe Sazen reported that while direct audience should be avoided, if there were few personnel, a temporary appointment could be made. When the senior councilors reviewed the written list of foot soldiers to be appointed temporarily, they said it should be reported to the lord. Accordingly, Hanemon appeared before the lord and reported this matter. The lord stated that if Matahachi could serve even with long hair, there would be no concern about direct audience, so appointing a temporary replacement for his service was unnecessary. This was communicated to the senior councilors and also to Matahachi.

Enkyō 2, Year of the Ox, 3rd month, 29th day: Since the conch shell unit was to appear for martial arts inspection on the last day of the month, the responsible presenter requested that two people from the military records office conch shell unit and 御徒目付 be sent. However, since only one person had been sent previously, it was reported that sending two people would be difficult. Nevertheless, since all matters had been completed and it was getting late in the day, two people were sent this time, with the understanding that this matter would be investigated in the future.

Kan'en 2, Year of the Snake, 2nd month, 8th day: Honda Minbu reported that 御徒目付 Iwasa Chōemon was assigned confidential duties and was to be sent to Himeji in Harima Province as a foot soldier courier. Accordingly, Chōemon was ordered to depart on the 9th and travel for five days. Letters were sent from the local senior councilors to the Himeji senior councilors, and we also wrote letters to their inspector officials. Chōemon received the prescribed miscellaneous expense silver, and two ryō in gold were lent from the confidential funds and given to him. He was accompanied by two long-handled weapon bearers (one carrying a document box) and one servant.
