(Continued from previous page)
…as the disturbance was riotous, [the peasants] were promptly informed that the emergency levy (saigakukin) had been remitted, and were ordered to return to their respective villages.
One: On the same day, the more than sixty townspeople who had previously [on the twenty-fourth] been ordered confined to jail or placed under house arrest, as well as the eleven peasants who had been ordered jailed the previous night, were all released without exception.
One: On the same day, as large numbers of peasants had gathered at the branch hall (kakusho) of the Higashi Honganji temple, the District Magistrates (kōri bugyō) Mitsuoka Jirōemon [personal name: Takefusa] and Hatta Kinemon [personal name: ■Yoshu (partially illegible)], along with the Foot Inspectors (o-kachi metsuke) and the Inspector unit (o-metsuke-gumi) men, proceeded to the said branch hall. They conveyed to the assembled peasants that the previously ordered payment of the requisition levy (go-yōkin) had been remitted, and further, that any petitions they wished to submit would be duly received. Upon hearing this, all of the peasants dispersed.
One: On the twenty-seventh day of the third month, as Lady Itahime [致姫様] had safely delivered her third child, the Go-yōnin (Chamberlain) Daidōji Magokurō [personal name: Shigenaga] and his eldest son Katsunoshin [personal name: Shigemi], father and son, were appointed to the role of Hikime-yaku (ceremonial arrow-shooting officers). The ceremony was held on this day in the Zama (private reception room). The Side-Unit Commander and Ohirobiki Go-yōgakari (Inner Quarters Administrator) Hattori Yoshizaemon [personal name: Yoshinobu] was appointed to the role of ■-yaku (partially illegible), and the Ohirobiki Go-yōtashi (Inner Quarters Supply Officer) Takeda Ninzaemon [personal name: Masafusa] was appointed to the roles of Hikime-kai-yaku (assistant to the ceremonial arrow officer) and Soe-yaku (supplementary officer).
Note: As the Hikime-yaku is a role of considerable importance, it was originally to be assigned to Senior Councillor (karō) Sakai Yozaemon; however, as his son had been summoned from the home domain, and as this was a period of austerity with [certain restrictions], the assignment was made to Magokurō and his son, with Yozaemon nominally serving as the principal officer. Subsequently, as the Hikime ceremony and all duties related to the birth had been completed, on the third day of the fourth month, in the presence of [the lord], Yozaemon was presented with a sword and ■-objects (partially illegible, possibly gifts).
