数伏置ともしれされは金崎引色に見へし
所に秀吉四百計の勢にて黒煙を立て
追込み門きわ【脇書】「ま」て追たりけるに毛屋
七左衛門と云者時分よく門を打けるに
たて出されたる者四五十討取ル秀吉以
智略を噯を入人質をとり引取り給ふ
此時秀吉に付残る雑兵七百計と申
此義いかゝ決しかたし
其元に而御吟味可被成候実虚も不存候得共此方に
覚申候は如此に御座候手筒城には津波／久（ク）波疋
田左近気ひ社人籠り申と覚しか

【右丁】
（敵が）どれほど多くの伏兵を置いても知れないので、金ヶ崎（勢）は退き色（退却の様子）に見えたところに、秀吉は四百ほどの勢で黒煙を立てて追い込み、門際まで追い詰めたのであった。毛屋七左衛門という者が、時分よく門を打ち（閉め）たので、打ち出されていた者（を）四、五十（人）討ち取った。秀吉は智略をもって、（負傷者への）労い（を示し）、人質をとって引き取られた。
此の時、秀吉に付き残る雑兵七百ほどと申すが、
この義（ことの真偽）はいかがか、決しがたし。
（当方より申し上げれば、）そちらにてご吟味なさるべく候。真偽は存じ申さず候えども、こちらに覚え申し候は、かくの如くに御座候。手筒城には、津波久波・疋田左近・気比社人が籠り申したと覚えしが、討死をいたし申し候よし。以上。津波久波

—no matter how many ambush forces the enemy had positioned, their numbers were now unknowable (to the enemy), and the Kanegasaki forces appeared to be withdrawing. At this, Hideyoshi charged in with a force of some four hundred men under cover of (gun)smoke and drove them all the way back to the castle gate. A man called Mōya Shichizaemon closed the gate at just the right moment, but the fifty or so men who had been caught outside were cut down. Hideyoshi, employing his strategic cunning, tended to the wounded, took hostages, and then withdrew.
(Note: It is said that the footsoldiers remaining with Hideyoshi at this time numbered some seven hundred, but whether this is accurate is difficult to determine.)
Please make inquiries on your end regarding the above. I cannot vouch for the truth or falsity of this account, but what I myself recall is as I have written here. As for Tezutsu Castle, I believe that Tsunahakuwa, Hikita Sakon, and the Kehi Shrine priests took refuge within—though I understand they met their deaths there. That is all. —Tsunahakuwa
