境邑（さかいむら） 里正 太右衛門（金野氏）
この村は宿駅（うまや）である。北は川辺郡、南は仙北郡の両郡の境にあるをもって、そのように言うのである。『倭訓栞』に云く、「さかひ」とは「境」「堺」であり、「坂合（さかあい）」の義であろう。『日本書紀』に「境部」を「坂合部（さかいべ）」とも書かせている。よって「さかひめ」とも言う。『万葉集』に「三中」と書いて「さかひ」と読ませているのは、不盡山（富士山）が甲斐・信濃・駿河の三国にまたがるから言うのであるが、されどこれは「みなか」と読んで「真中（まなか）」の義であると言われている。「境」は「畍」を正字とする。俗語に「何じゃさかひ」などと言うのは、然（しか）あるが故に語を詰めた辞（ことば）であろう。近江と山城の境は追分にあり、これが西三十三箇国・東三十三箇国の堺であると言われていると見えている。
『享保郡邑記』に云く、「境村、家数八十五軒、内一軒寺也。駅馬（うまや）、淀川へ八町三十二間、豊島元町へ三里二十五町二十二間、河辺郡舟岡村境、合貝野（あいかいの／あわせかいの）・苅谷沢（かりやさわ）・水落、街道橋限也」と見える。考えるに、このあたりは、もとは「苅柴関（かりしばのせき）」と言いし地（ところ）であろう。それを「苅和野郷（かりわののさと）」であろうと言った人があるけれど、

Sakai Village Village Head: Taemon (of the Konno clan)
This village is a post-station (umaya). It is called thus because it sits on the boundary between Kawabe District to the north and Senboku District to the south. The Wakan Shiori-bumi states: "'Sakai' [境/堺] is likely derived from 'sakagai' (坂合), meaning 'the meeting of slopes.' In the Nihon Shoki, the word 'Sakaibe' (境部) is also written as 'Sakaibe' (坂合部)." Hence the place is also called "Sakahime." In the Man'yōshū, the characters "三中" are read as "sakai," because Mount Fuji (Fujisan) straddles the three provinces of Kai, Shinano, and Suruga—though it is said that this should be read "minaka," meaning "the very center" (真中). The correct character for "sakai" (境) is "畍." The colloquial expression "nannja sakai" and the like is a compressed form of speech arising from this same reasoning. The boundary between Ōmi and Yamashiro provinces lies at Oiwake, and this is said to be the dividing line between the thirty-three provinces of the west and the thirty-three provinces of the east—so it appears.
The Kyōhō Gun'yūki states: "Sakai Village: 85 households, of which one is a temple. Post-station (umaya): 8 chō and 32 ken to the Yodogawa; 3 ri, 25 chō, and 22 ken to Toyoshima Motomachi. Borders Funaoka Village in Kawabe District; includes Aikaino (or Awasekaino), Kariyasawa, and Mizuochi; delimited by the highway bridge." Upon reflection, this area was likely once the place known as Karishiba Barrier (苅柴関, Karishiba no Seki).
