此邑 驛路（ウマヤ）也北は河￣ノ邉南は仙北￣ノ両郡の堺 在（ナル）を以（モ）てしかいへる也 倭訓栞（シヲリブミ）￣ニ云￣ク
さかひ境堺坂合の義（ヨシ）なるへし日本紀に境部を坂合部とも書（カヽ）せり
よてさかひめともいふ萬葉集に三中と書てさかひとよめるは不𥁞山は甲斐
信濃駿河三國にかゝればいふなりされどこはみなかとよみて真中の義（ヨシ）
といへり境は畍を正字とす俗語に何じやさかひな￣ンどいふは然（サル）が故にをつめ
たる辞なるべし近江と山城の境は追分にあり是西三十三箇國東三十三个

境邑（佐加比牟良） 里正 太右衛門（金野氏）
この村は宿駅である。北は河辺、南は仙北の両郡の境にあることから、このように呼ばれている。『倭訓栞』に言うには、「さかひ」（境・堺）は「坂合」の意味であろう。『日本書紀』に境部を坂合部とも書いている。よって「さかひめ」とも言う。『万葉集』に「三中」と書いて「さかひ」と読むのは、富士山が甲斐・信濃・駿河の三国にまたがるからである。しかし、これは「みなか」と読んで「真中」の意味だという説もある。境は「畍」を正字とする。俗語で「何じゃさかひ」などと言うのは、そのため縮めた言葉であろう。近江と山城の境は追分にあり、これが西三十三ヶ国と東三十三ヶ国の境であるという、と記されている。
『享保郡邑記』に言うには、境村の家数は八十五軒、うち一軒は寺である。駅馬は淀川まで八町三十二間、豊島元町まで三里二十五町二十二間。河辺郡舟岡村境、合貝野、刈谷沢、水落街道橋を境界とする、と見える。

This village is a post station. It is called thus because it is located at the border between Kawabe to the north and Senboku to the south, both being districts. The "Wakan Shiori" states that "sakai" (boundary/border) likely derives from "sakaai" (slope meeting). In the Nihon Shoki, "Sakaibe" (boundary clan) is also written as "Sakaaibe." Therefore, it is also called "sakahime." In the Man'yōshū, "三中" is written and read as "sakai" because Mount Fuji spans the three provinces of Kai, Shinano, and Suruga. However, some say this should be read as "minaka," meaning "center." The correct character for "sakai" is "畍." Colloquial expressions like "nanja sakai" are likely abbreviated forms derived from this. The border between Ōmi and Yamashiro is at Oiwake, which is said to be the boundary between the western thirty-three provinces and the eastern thirty-three provinces.
The "Kyōhō Gun'yūki" states that Sakai Village has eighty-five households, one of which is a temple. The post horses travel eight chō and thirty-two ken to the Yodo River, and three ri, twenty-five chō, and twenty-two ken to Toyoshima Motomachi. The boundaries are Kawabe District's Funaoka Village border, Aikaino, Kariyasawa, and Mizuochi Kaidō Bridge.
