日夜（にちや）火（ひ）のもとに気（き）をつけ風（かぜ）ふき
かなひかたき用事（やうじ）あつて外（そと）へ
出る時は門口（かどくち）より立（たち）かへり火の用心（やうじん）よ
くせよと二三べん申付て出べきこと也
神仏（しんぶつ）または諸（しよ）くわんじん等（とう）修行者（しゆぎやうじや）へ
心ざし有者は火事を出すことはすべ
てなき物也と古（ふる）き老人（らうじん）の云置（いゝをかれ）しこと也

現代語訳

昼夜を問わず火のもとに気をつけ、風が吹いて都合の悪い用事があって外へ出る時は、門口から引き返し、「火の用心をよくせよ」と二、三度申し付けて出るべきことである。

神仏、または諸々の勧進・修行者へ志のある者は、火事を出すことは決してないものだと、古い老人が言い置かれたことである。

英語訳

One must be vigilant about fire at all times, day and night. When there is pressing business that requires one to go out on a day when the wind is blowing unfavorably, one should turn back at the gate and instruct the household two or three times to take good care with fire before departing.

It has been said by elders of old that those who are devoted in their hearts to the gods and buddhas, or who make offerings to wandering monks and ascetics (*kangin* and *shugyōja*), will never be the cause of a fire.
