Tada Tatemaki, Shimada Sakon, Kano Shigezaburo, and Nagano Shuzen conspired together in treacherous plots. Most notably, in the year of Tsuchinoe-Uma (Ansei 5, 1858), they caused the unsealing of letters written by men of patriotic resolve and passed them to Watanabe Kinzaburo. This caused affairs to be thrown into chaos, ultimately resulting in the complete elimination at one stroke of those who were loyal patriots anxious for the nation's welfare. Their crimes are truly unpardonable under Heaven and Earth. Furthermore, each and every additional offense has been confessed in detail, too numerous to enumerate fully. Therefore, citing this as but one example of their crimes, heavenly punishment (tenchū) is hereby administered.
