しるべきなり。むかし松永弾正（まつながだんじやう）が松虫を飼（かひ）けるにさま〴〵
に養ひければ。三年までいきけりと語りつたふ。又予が
しれる人。子規（ほとゝぎす）を飼（かひ）けり。此鳥は夏ばかり出るもの
にて。飼鳥（かひとり）にはたへてならざるを。餌飼（ゑがひ）よくあつかひ
けるにより。二三年も籠（かごの）中（なか）に愛翫（あひくわん）するを見および

つよければすこしも妨（さまた）げなし。人の至誠（まこと）をつくすとこ

天機（てんき）をふさぐ事のみおほし。わけて高貴の家富
有の家は。たゞ寒冷（さむくひへる）を毒とこゝろへ。飲食は温熱（あたゝかにあつき）の物
のみを喰しめ。夏月も絹綿（きぬわた）を着せしむ。故に頭（あたま）に

知るべきである。昔、松永弾正が松虫を飼った時に、様々に世話をしたところ、三年まで生きたと語り伝えられている。また私の知っている人で、ホトトギスを飼った人がいる。この鳥は夏だけに現れるもので、飼い鳥にはとても適さないものを、餌やりや世話を良くしたので、二三年も籠の中で愛でて楽しむのを見たことがある。ましてや万物の霊長である人間として、自分で養生し自分で身を守り、みだりに庸医に任せず、元気を損なうことがなければ、長生きできることは疑いないであろう。

○小児には時々生冷（冷たく生の）の物を食べさせるべきである。乳幼児を芽児（新芽のような子）とも言って、その体は小さく弱々しいけれども、その気は強壮で熱が強いので少しも害にはならない。人が真心を尽くすところで子供に勝るものはないけれども、世間の人は育児の道に暗くて、天性を妨げることが多い。特に身分の高い家や裕福な家は、ただ寒冷を毒と心得て、飲食は温熱の物だけを食べさせ、夏でも絹綿を着せる。そのため頭に瘡（かさぶた）ができ、《俗に胎毒というたぐい》また耳だれを患ったり、あるいは虫歯になって欠けたり
