安政二年（1855年）卯年十月二日夜、亥の刻を過ぎた頃、突然大地震が起こり、倒壊した家から出火し、あちこちで火災が発生した。江戸中の大名屋敷、寺院、町家などならびに土蔵が大破損したことは数え切れない。これにより遠国の縁者または取引先に知らせるにも、筆や紙では尽くしがたい。倒壊した家や出火などを残すところなく詳しく記したので、よくよくご覧いただきたい。
日本橋北
日本橋北は宝町一丁目二丁目三丁目、本町通り、駿河町辺り、伊勢町辺り、十軒店、本石町まで、今川橋辺り、小伝馬町辺り、いずれも大破損。東へ大伝馬町通り同様に被害甚大。通り、旅籠町、油町、塩町、馬喰町、横山町、両国広小路、柳原土手、この間で即死三百人ほど、怪我人は数え切れない。
郡代御屋敷、豊島町、久右衛門町辺り、橋本町、弁慶橋、お玉ヶ池、市橋様御屋敷、神田小柳町、籾蔵辺り、同じく松田町、新石町、今川橋まで大破損。この辺りで即死四百人余り、怪我人の数は分からない。筋違御門内において酒井様御屋敷、青山下野守様、土井能登守様、松平左衛門尉様、稲葉丹後守様、土屋采女正様、これより三河町まで大破損である。
西神田一円大破損、土蔵もみな大破。また浜町辺りの諸々の御屋敷も破損、松島町辺り大破、即死はこの辺りで八十人ほどあり、怪我人は数知れず。それより人形町辺り、堺町辺り、葭町辺り、富沢町辺り、久松町辺り、村松町辺り、橋町辺り、この辺りはみな大破。それより

North of Nihonbashi
North of Nihonbashi: Takaramachi 1st, 2nd, and 3rd districts, Honcho-dori, around Surugacho, around Isecho, Jikken-dana, up to Honishicho, around Imagawa Bridge, around Kodenmacho - all suffered major damage. Eastward to Odenmacho-dori, same severe damage. The street, Hatago-cho, Abura-cho, Shio-cho, Bakuro-cho, Yokoyama-cho, Ryogoku Hirokoji, Yanagihara embankment - in this area about 300 people died instantly, with countless injured.
