◯見（み）たき物（もの）芝居の楽屋（がくや）といへる清女（せいぢよ）が言葉（ことば）にもとづきて。役者
素臉（すがほ）の写真（せううつし）を書（ゑか）き先年 物故（ぶつこ）したる市川六代目三升
哥舞妓國（かぶきこく）の島巡（しまめぐり）を附録（ふろく）す旨趣（すじ）は讀本（よみほん）の和荘（わそう）
兵衛にしたがひて俗（ぞく）にちかき小説（せうせつ）也。されば此書を以て。
御夜話のねむけを覚し。夜鍋仕㕝の労（らう）を休（やす）ましめば。 自（おのづか）
ら心をなぐさむるの友（とも）なるべし。
◯役者夏の富士の初牒（しよてう）に比（ひ）して。三座（さんざの）年禮（ねんれい）を初（はじめ）〆。眠獅（みんし）《割書：嵐雛助｜吉田屋》成田屋（なりたや）
と改名（かいめい）するの圖（づ）に終（おわ）る。是（これ）先年（せんねん）故人（こしん）雛助（ひなすけ）。江戸 下（くだ）りの 節（せつ）。夏の冨士
の巻尾（くはんび）なるの以謂（ゆえん）也。
◯役者附（やくしやづけ）の例（れい）に任（まかせ）てこと〴〵く【枠】画中（ゑのなか）に（に）名面（やくしやのな）【枠閉じる】をしるす。故（かるかゆへ）【かかるゆへ】に繪（ゑ）ならび
くだ〳〵しきといへども。これを 江戸（ゑど）ッ（つ）子（こ）。芝居通（しばゐつう）に見（み）するにあらず。
東土産（あつまのみやけ）となりて。遠（とを）き國（くに）の境（はて）へ至（いた）らん時（とき）。鼻（はな）が髙（たか）けりや團十（だんじう）
現代語訳
◯見たい物として「芝居の楽屋」という清女の言葉に基づいて、役者の
素顔の肖像を描き、先年物故した市川六代目三升の
歌舞伎国の島巡りを付録とする。趣旨は読本の和荘
兵衛に従って俗に近い小説である。されればこの書をもって
夜話の眠気を覚まし、夜鍋仕事の疲労を休ませれば、自然と
心を慰める友となるであろう。
◯役者を夏の富士の初蝶に比して、三座の年礼を始めとし、眠獅（嵐雛助、吉田屋）が成田屋
と改名する図に終わる。これは先年故人となった雛助が江戸下りの節、夏の富士
の巻末であるゆえんである。
◯役者付けの例に任せて、ことごとく絵の中に役者の名前を記す。かかるゆえに絵並び
くだくだしいといえども、これを江戸っ子や芝居通に見せるのではない。
東の土産となって、遠い国の果てへ至った時、「鼻が高ければ団十」

◯Based on the words of a courtesan who said "the backstage of theaters" was something worth seeing, this work depicts actors'
natural faces without makeup, and includes as an appendix the "Island Tour of Kabuki Land" by the late sixth-generation Ichikawa Sanshō.
The purpose follows the example of the reading book character Wasō
Hyōe, making it a popular novel close to common tastes. Therefore, if this book serves to
dispel drowsiness during evening conversations and provide rest from the fatigue of night work, it will naturally
become a friend that comforts the heart.
◯Comparing actors to the first butterflies of Mount Fuji in summer, beginning with the New Year ceremonies of the three theaters, ending with a picture of Minshi (Arashi Hinasuke, Yoshidaya) taking
the name Naritaya. This refers to the fact that the late Hinasuke, when he came down to Edo in previous years, appeared at the end of "Summer Fuji."
◯Following the custom of actor identification, actors' names are written throughout the pictures. For this reason, though the pictures and text may seem
tedious, this is not intended for true Edoites or theater connoisseurs.
