## 御勘定吟味方改役（勘定奉行所の監察役）
**青山弥惣右衛門** ※これは青山氏の家臣ではなく、堀氏の奥方付きの侍女（女中）のことである。
〔漢文注記：「苟くも其の身、諸侯の夫人たる者として、その寂しき葬られ方はいかなるものか。仏家の言う前世の因縁がそうさせたのか、それがすなわち果報というものであるか。」〕
母が重病で床に伏していたところ、家が潰れてしまい、下女がその病人の上に覆いかぶさって、落ちかかってきた棟木を耐えて支え、病人を助けた。その間に主人が駆けつけて母を引き出した。下女も幸いにして命を全うした。

[Classical Chinese annotation: "That the wife of a feudal lord should be buried in such a forlorn manner — was this not brought about by the causes of a previous life, as Buddhism teaches? And is this then the karmic fruit thereof?"]
His mother was gravely ill and bedridden when the house collapsed. A maidservant threw herself over the sick woman and endured the falling roof beams to protect her. In the meantime, the master rushed to the scene and pulled the mother to safety. The maidservant also fortunately escaped with her life.
