ある場所では五十町ほどの間にわたって川中へ押し入り、その周辺の村方も埋まってしまっているところがある。しかしながら、大量の岩石だけでは、とても水の勢いで押し切ることはできない様子である。そのため、次第に水が溜まり、平均でおよそ七～八丈にも達しようとしている。これにより数か所の村々が水中に沈み、その周辺は湖水のような状態になっている。もちろん様々な対策を命じているが、大きな山から村々へ岩石が押し入っている状況であるため、人の力ではどうにも及ばないかもしれない。また、川中島の平地に住む者たちは、この溜まった水がどこかへ一気に押し出してくるのではないかと計り知れないほど恐怖し、山手へ避難している。丹波島宿などもこれと同様の状況であり、人馬の継ぎ立てもできかねるほどであるが、精一杯の手当てを命じ置いている。とりあえず、この段をご報告申し上げる。以上。

一、先日ご報告申し上げた通り、私の在所である信州松代において、去る二十四日の夜、未曾有の大地震があり、城内の櫓一か所が震え崩れ、その他の櫓・門・囲塀・住居向けの建物が大破損した。その他各所において、地面が震え裂け、幅七～八寸ほどのものが数間にわたって筋状に入っている。家中屋敷については、南の山手に近い方は破損が軽かったが、全壊家屋あるいは半壊家屋が中にあり、その他一帯が破損している。城下町については、全壊家屋・破損箇所・死亡者もあり、その他領分の村々全体についても、場所によって七～八寸、あるいは一尺・二～三尺と地面が震え裂け、数間にわたって筋状に入り、村から土・泥・砂・水・焼石の類が吹き出し、また田畑の中で地続きのまま高くなったり低くなったりと様々な地変が生じた。さらに山中筋においては、なおさら山崩れが夥しく、土中に埋まった村方もある。その上、かねてよりご報告申し上げている通り、更級郡のうち山（平林村）地内の高山において、日々水位が増し、およそ十七～八丈の溜まり水となり、上流六～七里の間が湖水の様相を呈している。これにより川沿いの村々の数か村が倒壊あるいは焼失の上、数十丈の水底へ（沈んでいる）……

In some places, rocks were pushed into the riverbed over a stretch of approximately fifty chō, burying surrounding villages beneath them. However, the accumulated rocks alone appear insufficient to withstand the force of the water pressing against them. As a result, the water level has been gradually rising to approximately seven or eight jō. Several villages have consequently been submerged, and the surrounding area has taken on the appearance of a lake. We have naturally ordered various countermeasures, but given that enormous boulders from the great mountains have been thrust into the villages, it is uncertain whether human effort can suffice. Moreover, the inhabitants of the flatlands of Kawanakajima, fearing that this accumulated water might suddenly burst forth all at once to some unknown destination, have evacuated to higher ground in the mountains. Tanbajima post station and similar areas are in the same condition, to the extent that the relay of people and horses can barely be maintained; nevertheless, we have ordered the best possible measures to be taken. We hereby submit this report for the time being. Respectfully submitted.

One item: As previously reported, at my domain of Matsushiro in Shinano Province, on the night of the 24th, an unprecedented great earthquake occurred. One turret within the castle collapsed from the shaking, and the other turrets, gates, enclosure walls, and residential buildings suffered severe damage. Furthermore, in various locations, the ground cracked open, with fissures of approximately seven to eight sun in width extending in lines over several ken. Regarding the residences of domain retainers, those situated toward the southern mountains suffered lighter damage, but among them were fully or partially collapsed structures, with damage widespread throughout. In the castle town, there were collapsed buildings, damaged areas, and fatalities. Across all villages within the domain, the ground cracked in lines extending several ken, with widths of seven to eight sun, or one shaku, two to three shaku depending on location. From the villages, soil, mud, sand, water, and what appears to be pumice or volcanic rock were ejected, and within the fields and paddies, the ground undulated, rising in some places and sinking in others, causing various forms of terrain deformation. In the mountain interior, landslides were even more extensive, with some villages buried under earth. In addition, as previously reported, at the high mountain within the district of Yamahirabayashi Village in Sarashina District, the water level has been rising day by day, accumulating to approximately seventeen or eighteen jō in depth, with the area stretching six to seven ri upstream having taken on the appearance of a lake.
