The damage from the major earthquakes that occurred on the 24th and 29th of last month at my domain of Takada, Kubiki District, Echigo Province, is as follows:
- The main citadel (honmaru): residences, gates, and walls in various places [damaged bridges / severely damaged]; Second and third enclosures (ni-no-maru, san-no-maru): gates, walls, bridges, and covered benches severely damaged; Main gate (ōtemon): right embankment over 30 ken damaged, left embankment over 20 ken severely damaged.
- One guardhouse (toki-bansho) severely damaged; Three ashigaru (foot soldier) guardhouses severely damaged; Domain rice storage warehouse damaged.
- Rice storehouses severely damaged; Practice hall (keiko-jo) severely damaged; Seven samurai residences severely damaged.
- Eighteen long-houses for stipend-receiving retainers severely damaged; Twenty-eight ashigaru long-houses severely damaged; Administrative office of the entrusted domain severely damaged.
- Gatehouse (kido-bansho) severely damaged; Two treasury storehouses severely damaged; Thirty notice board posts damaged.
- 477 townspeople's houses (partially illegible) damaged; Five village granaries (kuchi-gōzō) collapsed; Ten village granaries severely damaged.
- Four earthen storehouses at Imamachi jinya (local government office) for collected rice severely damaged; Nineteen earthen storehouses (partially illegible) collapsed; 244 earthen storehouses (partially illegible) severely damaged.
- One irrigation inspection facility collapsed; Three road bridges damaged; 454 seedling beds covered in mud.
- Thirty stone revetments on the right bank of the Sekikawa and Yashiro waterways collapsed; Twenty-four landslides; Eighteen impoundment reservoirs collapsed.
- Fourteen fields eroded by rivers; Four flood-control embankments and irrigation channels severely damaged; Twenty-six sluice gates, water gates, and related structures damaged.
- Deaths: 5 persons; Injured: 28 persons; Horses killed: 2
The above constitutes the damage to areas inside and outside the castle and throughout the domain, as previously reported.
The extent of crop damage and losses will be reported after the harvest assessment. We hereby submit this initial report.
