右之通今度被仰付候旨別段備前守より以口上全躰於
御當家御仕来之処ハ御用人席へ轉役被仰付之御先例ニ候得
共當時御勘定方両人共老年殊ニ此節御無人ニ付右之通被
仰付伹御前向御用之節ハ是迄之通罷出可相勤平日ハ以来
御勘定所へ可相詰也且亦召具方之儀主殿将曹等未不案内
ニ付是以唯今迄之通相兼可勤旨也依之甚不調法殊ニ不
案内之筋ニ付再三御辞退申上之処以思食被仰付之間乍御苦
労可相勤之旨被申仍而御請申上次諸大夫堀川近江守同伴
ニ而出御前如先規干鯛献上織部御禮申上之旨被申上經干
甚不調法之義奉恐入之旨申上之處乍大儀目出度可相勤之旨
仰之身不肖愚昧之迷別而奉畏難有御禮申上了而退

三日甲申晴れ 上巳の節句、御家門は例の通り総詰めであった。若御所の御参りがあり、御雛の御祝酒を下されることは例の通りであった。○巳の刻頃、諸大夫中詰所より経千が招かれたということで、番頭山口外記同伴で出向いたところ、諸大夫の難波備前守、堀川近江守、御用人佐々木大宰、大監岡本右衛門尉等が列座しており、備前守より書付をもって申し渡された趣旨の写しは以下の通りである。

今度思し召しをもって御勘定方兼役を仰せ付けられ、御役料米年分一石を下される事

右の通り今度仰せ付けられた旨、別段備前守より口上をもって、全体当家の御仕来のところは御用人席へ転役を仰せ付けられるのが御先例であるけれども、当時御勘定方両人とも老年で、殊にこの節御無人につき右の通り仰せ付けられた。ただし御前向きの御用の節はこれまでの通り出仕して相勤めるべく、平日はこれより御勘定所へ詰めるべきである。また召し具え方の儀について、主殿、将曹等がまだ不案内につき、これもただ今までの通り兼ねて勤めるべき旨である。これにより甚だ不調法で殊に不案内の筋につき、再三御辞退申し上げたところ、思し召しをもって仰せ付けられたので、御苦労ながら相勤めるべき旨を申された。よって御請け申し上げた。次に諸大夫堀川近江守同伴で御前に出て、先規の通り干鯛を献上し、織部が御礼申し上げる旨を申し上げた。経千は甚だ不調法の義を恐れ入る旨申し上げたところ、大儀ながら目出度く相勤めるべき旨を仰せられた。身不肖愚昧の至り、別して畏れ多く有難き御礼を申し上げ了えて御前を退いた。それより諸大夫中をはじめ役所々々それぞれに吹聴申し入れた。ただし御用場

3rd day, Kinoe-Saru, clear: For the Jōshi (Doll Festival) seasonal celebration, the noble house maintained full attendance as usual. The Young Lord visited, and celebratory sake for the dolls was served as customary. ○ Around the hour of the Snake, Kesen was summoned from the senior retainers' quarters, so he went accompanied by chief retainer Yamaguchi Geki. There, senior retainers Namba Bizen-no-kami, Horikawa Ōmi-no-kami, chamberlain Sasaki Dazai, senior supervisor Okamoto Uemon-jō and others were seated, and Bizen-no-kami conveyed the following written message:

By His Lordship's gracious consideration, you are hereby appointed to concurrent service in the accounting department, and granted an annual stipend of one koku of rice.

Regarding this appointment, Bizen-no-kami additionally conveyed orally that while the established precedent in this house is to appoint to chamberlain positions, currently both accounting officers are elderly, and given the present shortage of personnel, this appointment is made accordingly. However, when there are duties requiring attendance before His Lordship, you shall serve as before; on regular days, you shall henceforth be stationed at the accounting office. Furthermore, regarding attendant arrangements, since the palace guards and military officers are still inexperienced, you shall continue to serve in your current capacity as well. Given this involves considerable difficulty and unfamiliar duties, I repeatedly requested to decline, but as this is appointed by His Lordship's will, though burdensome, I was told I should serve faithfully. Therefore, I accepted the appointment. Next, accompanied by senior retainer Horikawa Ōmi-no-kami, I appeared before His Lordship and, following established custom, presented dried sea bream and Oribe expressed his gratitude. When Kesen humbly expressed his apprehension about his inadequacies, His Lordship graciously said that though arduous, he should serve admirably. I expressed my profound gratitude for this undeserved honor despite my humble and foolish nature, then withdrew from His Lordship's presence.
