Three people were requested to handle the accounting, and although Kesen's share of silver for the initial meeting was set aside as a lost contribution, it was decided that even half a piece should be contributed. Therefore, having no choice, I accepted responsibility and arranged with Katoshi and Ujihiko several days in advance that the fifth meeting should be held the day after tomorrow on the 7th in the afternoon. Accordingly, today I had the farmer Magosuke from the Western-Central Division distribute the notice papers. Naturally, both Ujihiko and Kesen had prepared these in advance. ○ Today, after deducting various miscellaneous expenses from the money shares of the Fifth Company, the remainder was 2,364 mon per person. The combined amount for father and son was 4,732 mon, which we received.
6th day, Hinoto-I, cloudy: Due to a shortage of personnel for guard duty at the noble house recently, it is now every other day. ○ Having been appointed to a transfer position, I privately sent gifts today to those involved in financial management. The items were as follows:
Fish money 200 hiki - Namba Bizen-no-kami
One obi fabric - Sasaki Dazai Daibu
Seven bonito - Okamoto Uhyōe-no-jō
Same - Sakamoto Minbu
Ten pieces - Okazaki Taitō, father and son
One Okushima hakama fabric, one ceremonial bonito - Kawase Shuzen
(Note: Regarding Kawase, I understand there had been prior informal discussions and he had provided various assistance, hence this gift.)
One piece of silver for fish - Catering department (Katsura Tōkichi, Imai Kosaburō)
Additionally, five bonito - Yasuda Tōtōmi-no-kami
7th day, Tsuchinoe-Ne, clear: In the early afternoon, I attended the lecture hall for the fifth meeting of the Three-Division Lecture Society. Regarding this lecture society, there was a discussion last year, and from this meeting forward, since there would be no refreshments provided, 200 mon each would be paid in lieu of meal expenses. Therefore, there was much less trouble involved, though the organizers were
