Fourth Month (small month)
1st day, Kō-Uma, clear: The renewal festival at Kibune Shrine was held as in previous years.
3rd day, Ren-Saru, clear: The young prince's promotion to Junior Second Rank was reported according to precedent, and the imperial decree was issued the same day. He made a ceremonial visit to the palace in gratitude, and made rounds to announce the news to all the noble families. Everyone wore hemp formal wear and expressed their congratulations.
4th day, Kui-Tori, clear: Combining the financial meeting (kōkō) in Osaka and silver loan negotiations with Tetsushō, retainers Koho, Tsuneyuki and others departed for Osaka this morning by day boat. Nakano Yoshi had been suffering from heat exhaustion since the 29th of last month.
5th day, Kō-Inu, clear: In the afternoon, I made a pilgrimage to Sumiyoshi Shrine together with Koho.
6th day, Otsu-I, clear: The financial meeting was held on a boat. From around noon we went to a place called "Shirinashi" where the tide was out at the seaside. The view was spectacular and worthy of a scenic spot. We returned to our lodging after the Cock hour.
7th day, Hei-Ne, rain: Yesterday's auction was won by one Tomitaya Kichiemon for 670 me (units of silver). ○ For this congratulatory visit, we requested a loan exchange of 10 kan-me of silver from Kida Shōzaemon, and today he agreed to it. The repayment will be in five annual installments starting from this Year of the Rat, which he accepted.
8th day, Tei-Ushi, clear: In the afternoon, Koho, Tsuneyuki and others departed Osaka, traveling overland via the Eastern Highway to the capital, staying overnight in Hashimoto.
9th day, Bo-Tora, clear: They returned to the capital at noon. After leaving the palace, I returned home at the Sheep hour.
15th day, Kō-Saru, clear: My father and all the family made their shrine visit as in previous years. ○ Tsuneki had his hair cut this morning. He is twelve years old at this time.
16th day, Otsu-Tori, rain: The Aoi (Hollyhock) Festival. Around the Snake hour, the third drum was beaten. As I was serving in rotating attendance, I wore court dress and cap as usual, inserted hollyhock and katsura leaves, and reported for duty. I assembled at the council chamber, reported to the row of magistrates, and took my seat as the third celebrant. After the customary reports, each person took their position and formed processions. From the shrine's banquet hall, we ascended to the main hall, and when the sacred treasures were transferred, I went to the celebrants' section and took my seat. The celebrants completed the transfer of all sacred offerings and then proceeded to Shingu Shrine. Priest Wasei was represented by Eikō, Celebrant Akitsuta was accompanied by Tsuneyuki, and Suenori was represented by Suetora. After completing the offerings of inner and outer sanctuary food offerings, daily imperial meals, and morning meals, I prepared the imperial offerings in the courtyard. Due to rain, they were placed under the eaves of the main hall. After completing the ritual prayers and removing these offerings, I then removed the assistant outer sanctuary offerings, then the inner sanctuary offerings, completed the sacred enclosure procedures, and withdrew.
