七難即滅
七福即生

仁義五常の道を守り、
陰徳を施す人は、
家が富み栄え、
子孫繁昌して
長久し、めでたし

　　○天災を逃れ幸福を得る法

そもそも天の災いに遭うことは、これ天命であって逃れることはできないとはいえども、天命もまた己より出でて、定まって定まることがない（一定ではない）。

明の袁了凡は、天命として貧しく子がなく、五十三歳にて命が終わるべしという異人の占いを聞いた後、棲霞寺の雲谷禅師を訪ねて、法門を尋ねたところ、禅師は立命の学を説いて、万物はみな我に備わっており、天命もまた己より出でて定まることのない旨を示し、『功過格』一冊を授けた。袁了凡はその教えを詳しく聞いて、志を

Seven Calamities Instantly Extinguished,
Seven Blessings Instantly Born.

One who upholds the Way
of benevolence, righteousness, and the Five Constants,
and who practices hidden virtue,
shall see their household grow wealthy and flourish,
their descendants multiply and prosper,
enduring long — how auspicious!

　　○ The Method for Escaping Heavenly Disaster and Attaining Happiness

Now, although it may be said that encountering Heaven's calamities is fate — Heaven's decree — from which there is no escape, Heaven's decree likewise originates from within oneself and is never fixed or immutable.

Yuan Liaofan of the Ming dynasty heard a prophecy from a remarkable stranger that his fate was to remain poor and childless and to die at the age of fifty-three. Afterward, he visited the Chan master Yungu at Qixia Temple and inquired of him about the teachings of the Dharma. The master expounded the learning of "establishing one's own destiny," explaining that all things in the ten thousand phenomena are furnished within oneself, and that Heaven's decree, too, originates from within oneself and is never fixed.
