いましむる所（ところ）なるべし。去程（さるほど）にこの
災殃（わざはひ）を幸（さいわ）ひに。人気（にんき）こゝに改（あらた）まらば。偏（ひとへ）に
太平（たいへい）のもとひならんと。いさゝか其説（そのせつ）を
諭（さと）し。世直理草子（よなをりざうし）と題（だい）すること爾（しか）り

　詠地震巨濤（ぢしんつなみをえいず）
地震與（ぢしんと）＿二怒潮（つなみと）＿一。宝永以来荒（ほうえいこのかたのあれ）。
臨（けはしきに）＿レ険幸逃（のぞんでさいわいにけはしき）＿レ険（をのがる）。避（わざはひを）＿レ殃却遇（さけてかへつてわざはひ）＿レ殃（にあふ）。
家崩埋（いへくづれてちまたを）＿二道路（うづみ）＿一。橋落聳（はしをちてほばしら）＿二帆檣（そびゆ）＿一。
欲（このたびの）＿レ認（へんを）＿一【二の誤記ヵ】今般変（みとめんとほつせば）＿一。須（すべからく）＿レ求（このはんかう）＿二此板行（をもとむべし）＿一。

現代語訳

（これは）戒めるところであろう。それゆえ、この災いを幸いとして、人々の心がここに改まるならば、ひとえに太平の基となるであろうと、いささかその説を諭し、「世直り草子」と題することはこのとおりである。

　地震と津波を詠む
地震と怒れる潮（津波）は、宝永以来の荒れ模様。
険しい状況に臨みながら、幸いにも危険を逃れた者もあれば、災いを避けようとして、かえって災いに遭う者もあった。
家は崩れて道を埋め、橋は落ちて帆柱だけが高くそびえる。
このたびの変事を知りたければ、すべからくこの板行（出版物）を求めるべし。

英語訳

This must be what Heaven admonishes us about. Therefore, if the people's hearts are reformed by taking this disaster as an opportunity, it shall surely become the foundation of lasting peace. With this in mind, I have set forth my humble explanation and titled this work "Yonaori Sōshi" (A Booklet for the Rectification of the World), and this is my reasoning.

　A Poem on the Earthquake and Tsunami
The earthquake and the raging tides (tsunami) — what devastation since the Hōei era.
Facing peril, some fortunately escaped the danger; others, trying to avoid calamity, instead met with calamity.
Houses collapsed and buried the roads; bridges fell, and only the ships' masts rose towering above.
