渡（わた）すに、かすかに煙霧（えんむ）の如（ごと）くに見ゆるの気（き）あり、その
遠（とほ）きこと幾千里（いくせんり）といふことをはかるべからずといへるによ
りて、同（おなじ）き三年（さんねん）、帝（てい）羽（う）騎尉（きゐ）朱寛（しゆくわん）といふものをして、海（かい）
外（ぐわい）の異俗（いぞく）を訪（と）ひ尋（たづ）ねしむるにあたりて、何蛮（かばん）かねて
いへることのあれば、倶（とも）につれ往（ゆ）きけるに、遂（つひ）に琉球国（りうきうこく）
に至（いた）りけれども、言語（ことば）通（つう）ぜす、よつて一人（ひとり）を掠（かす）めて還（かへ）
れり、その翌年（よくねん）再（ふたゝび）朱寛（しゆくわん）を琉球（りうきう）につかはして、慰撫（ゐぶ）せ
しむといへども従（したが）はざれば、朱寛（しゆくわん）かの国（くに）に往（ゆき）たるしるし

唐土（もろこし）にありて、彼（かの）布甲（ふかふ）を見ていへるは、これは夷邪久（いやく）
の国人（くにひと）の用（もち）ゆるところの物（もの）といへりとあり、吾邦（わがくに）に

頃、天気が晴れて海上の風が穏やかな時、東の方を見渡すと、かすかに煙霧のように見える気配があり、その遠いことは幾千里というほどで測ることができないと言っていた。これによって、同じ三年、帝は羽騎尉朱寛という者に海外の異民族を訪ね尋ねさせるにあたって、何蛮がかねて言っていたことがあるので、一緒に連れて行かせたところ、ついに琉球国に至った。しかし言語が通じないので、一人を捕らえて帰った。その翌年、再び朱寛を琉球に派遣して懐柔させようとしたが従わなかったので、朱寛はその国に行った証拠に、布甲（よろい）を取って帰った。その頃、我が国の使者がたまたま中国にいて、その布甲を見て言うには、これは夷邪久の国人が用いるところの物だと言ったとある。我が国には、これらの事を記したものはないが、これによって思うに琉球の人が、屋久島の人とともに、我が国へ早くから往来していたことは知られる。史書を調べると、推古天皇二十四年に屋久の人が来たと見えている。この年は隋の大業十二年にあたる。これより先に屋久の人とともに琉球の人が、我が国に来た
